Full job description

The successful applicant will have 1 year of protected full-time clinical research, with responsibility for clinical trial visits and a potential to extend for a research degree depending on the candidate.

This is an opportunity for an individual to gain sub-specialist expertise and research experience in Immune haematology conditions and clinical trials. The position is suitable for individuals who would like clinical experience in the management of patients with complex immune disorders, clinical trial exposure, the opportunity to undertake prospective and retrospective patient outcome studies with a view to presentation and publication, and potential for further research opportunities. The role will be particularly important in recruiting patients to two new CART trials for patients with ITP and AIHA as well as other clinical trials in teens and adults with immune cytopenias such as anti-CD38, FcRn inhibition and anti-BAFFR studies. Collaborations across Imperial College and with other institutions will be encouraged and an opportunity to apply for further research funding.

Applicants interested in the post will work with Prof Nichola Cooper and the haematology clinical trials unit. We have a dedicated non-malignant haematology clinical trials unit which is experienced in delivering commercial and academic clinical studies. In addition to delivering Industry led trials, the trial unit has developed and delivered a number of investigator lead studies, involving all aspects of trial planning and delivery from research design to protocol development, ethical approval study implementation and data analysis. Candidates with an interest in developing and implementing clinical studies or other clinical research within immune haematology would be welcomed.

The successful candidate will be expected to improve recruitment to clinical trials in these rare diseases, and to publish their work in high-quality peer reviewed journals, and if appropriate to obtain research grant funding. A core part of the work will be to recruit to studies across the sector, counselling patients on clinical trials, and ensuring safety of the trial journey. They will also be expected to undertake the Associate PI scheme for one of the clinical trials.

The successful applicant may have contact with patients and service users and as part of our pre-employment checks and risk assessments, we will ask all candidates to confirm whether or not they have been fully vaccinated or have a medical exemption.

As part of our continued response to Covid19 we are still conducting the majority of our interviews virtually.

We are committed to equal opportunities and improving the working lives of our staff and will consider applications to work flexibly, part-time or job share. Please talk to us at interview.
