Overview
We are seeking a reliable and professional Self-Employed Ambulance Driver to provide safe and efficient transportation services around Sussex. This role involves operating non-emergency vehicles, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining vehicle readiness. The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience in commercial driving or delivery services. This is a self-employed position offering flexibility and the opportunity to work independently within the healthcare transportation sector.

Duties

  • Safely operate ambulance vehicles in accordance with road safety regulations and company policies
  • Transport patients to medical facilities or other designated locations promptly and securely
  • Assist with loading and unloading patients, including heavy lifting when necessary
  • Maintain clear communication with medical personnel, dispatchers, and patients throughout transport
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks on vehicles to ensure optimal condition
  • Keep accurate records of trips, mileage, and vehicle condition
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed during transit, including the use of appropriate safety equipment
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations when required

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record; experience in commercial driving or delivery roles is highly desirable
  • Proven experience as a driver, preferably with ambulance or emergency vehicle operation
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting patients or handling equipment
  • Excellent communication skills to interact professionally with patients, medical staff, and dispatch teams
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures to ensure ongoing operational readiness
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage schedules independently
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure during emergency responses or challenging situations
