Job Title: Independent Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) – Substance Misuse Service
Location: Stourbridge, West Midlands (DY9 8EL)
Pay Rate: £55 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 3-month initial contract (with potential extension)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00

Sanctuary Personnel is currently recruiting for an experienced Substance Misuse Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) to join a multidisciplinary, recovery-focused service in the West Midlands.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Independent Prescriber to take a leading clinical role within a structured alcohol and drug treatment service, supporting service users through evidence-based prescribing, recovery planning, and harm reduction interventions.
You will work closely with recovery coordinators, clinical leads, and partner agencies to deliver high-quality, person-centred care for individuals with complex substance misuse needs.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Prescribing & Assessment
- Carry out comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for service users
- Prescribe and review opioid substitution treatment and alcohol-related medications in line with national and local guidelines
- Adjust prescriptions based on clinical need and therapeutic response
- Assess suitability for detoxification programmes (community or inpatient)
- Support management of complex, urgent, or emergency clinical presentations
- Deliver harm reduction, health promotion, and BBV (Blood Borne Virus) interventions
Care Planning & Service Delivery
- Develop, implement, and review individualised recovery-focused treatment plans
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care
- Provide advice on medication interactions, side effects, and concordance
- Refer appropriately to mental health, safeguarding, and specialist services
Communication & Professional Practice
- Communicate clearly and sensitively with service users, carers, and partner agencies
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with governance standards
- Ensure informed consent and promote service user engagement in treatment decisions
Quality, Leadership & Governance
- Contribute to clinical audits, service evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives
- Work within prescribing competencies, organisational policies, and regulatory frameworks
- Participate in clinical supervision and ongoing professional development
- Support training and knowledge-sharing within the wider team
Risk & Safeguarding
- Identify and manage clinical and safeguarding risks appropriately
- Adhere to safeguarding procedures for vulnerable adults and children
- Ensure safe, compliant, and evidence-based practice at all times
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Current NMC or GPhC registration
- Qualification as an Independent Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP)
- Experience working within substance misuse / drug & alcohol services
- Minimum 1 year recent experience in a similar clinical prescribing role
- Strong understanding of harm reduction, recovery models, and prescribing frameworks
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and manage complex clinical presentations
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable:
- Experience in motivational interviewing
- Knowledge of local substance misuse services
- Additional qualification in drugs and alcohol studies (e.g., RCGP certificate)
- Experience in clinical audit or service development
