Would you like a rewarding role that allows you to work outside in some of the most scenic places in the Country? We are seeking reliable and motivated individuals to join our Waste and Street Scene team. We currently have vacancies for LGV Refuse Drivers in Skipton.

The role:

  • Drivers play a key role in ensuring safe systems of work are followed at all times to minimise risk to colleagues and the public. As vocational licence holders, there are additional responsibilities on the driver. Drivers must operate the vehicle safely and legally at all times, to comply with driving hours restrictions and to demonstrate ongoing continuing professional competency.
  • Drivers are responsible for supervising their collection crew. Responsible for the safe operation of Large Goods Vehicles [LGV] up to 32t. Ensuring the vehicle is clean and in good working order, that you have the relevant licences and training and to undertake the relevant operator checks, completing all records including daily and in-use checks and reporting defects.
  • Day to day supervision of the collection team, ensuring that all safe working practices, including wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and vehicles are implemented consistently and to report any issues to line management.
  • To follow all guidance and instruction in the emptying of the vehicle at any transfer/disposal site.
  • Undertaking dynamic risk assessments and liaison with line management on any issues arising. Ensuring all manoeuvres are completed safely and in line with instructions and training, including the use of reversing assistants.
  • Comply with all required training as requested and ongoing responsibilities around vocational licences – completion of records, medicals etc.
  • Collection and emptying of receptacles, ensuring high levels of customer service – removing spillages, checking of service lists and reporting instances outside of acceptable presentation – over-weight, contamination, damaged receptacle, lapsed contract etc.
  • Using paperwork or digitally on phones/in-cab devices to promote high standards of service delivery, efficiency and customer service. Communication of any refusal to the public via bin tag/sticker etc.
  • Ensuring all assisted/communal collections are completed and receptacles returned, where appropriate.
  • To work as a team to ensure services are completed and responsive to external factors – breakdowns, blockages etc. to minimise risk of service failure. Making suitable attempts to access all locations on the collection round.
  • To take responsibility for the correct reporting of accidents and act at the required level within the team for first aid in line with CPC training
  • Takes ownership of customer issues and ensures that they are resolved
  • Supervision of the crew to ensure they operate safely and effectively on a day to day basis.
