SUMMARY

The Practice Nurse will assist medical personnel in the care of practice patients; to include treatment, preventative care, screening and health education.

The Practice Nurse will organise and run clinics on an appointment system, keep accurate records of all consultations, prepare figures and statistics when required.

The successful candidate will be expected to work independently. To do this they will need to have either current experience or be willing to gain, through Practice arranged training.

HOURS : 9-11 hours per week over Wednesday, Thursday or Friday (negotiable)

REMUNERATION: Negotiable, depending on qualifications and experience

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: PART 1 NMC REGISTER

DESIRABLE CRITERIA: Cervical Cytology Certificate, Asthma/COPD Diploma, Diabetic Diploma

Consideration will be given to applicants who do not possess the desired qualifications.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:-

Health Promotion (including screening and lifestyle advice)

Cervical Cytology

Chronic Disease Management Clinics

Immunisations/Travel Clinic

Contraceptive Advice

QOF & DES contract requirements

Giving telephone advice when appropriate

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:-

To provide nursing services for the Practice to include assessment, screening, treatment services and health education advice;

To provide treatment services to patients under the direction of the general practitioners or in accordance with agreed protocols including the following areas

· Injection and immunisations

· Taking pathology samples e.g. blood, swabs

· Testing pathology samples e.g. urine

· Examination of female patients

· Aids/chaperones general practitioners during clinical procedures and medical sessions

To provide nursing services to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols, to include the following areas

· Well Persons Clinics (Male and Female)

· Travel Vaccinations

· Chronic Disease Management (Asthma/Diabetes/COPD/IHD/Hypertension)

· Stable Hypertensive Review

· Cervical Cytology

· Minor Surgery (Cryotherapy)

· Contraceptive advice

· QOF & DES Contracts requirements

To advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to general practitioner as necessary

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Maintain registration on the live register held by the United Kingdom central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting U.K.C.C.

To attend relevant training courses as required by the general practitioners

Participation in suitable training courses will be facilitated.
