Health Care Assistant

Role Overview

To provide high-quality, person-centred care, ensuring the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of all service users at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Care & Support

  • Deliver compassionate, respectful care in line with the 5 Fundamental Standards (Safe, Caring, Responsive, Effective, Well-led) and the Dignity Challenge.
  • Support service users with all aspects of daily living, including personal care, bathing, showering, dressing, and continence care.
  • Ensure timely provision of meals, fluids, and nutrition, supporting hydration and dietary needs.
  • Promote independence, choice, and dignity at all times.
  • Follow care plans, risk assessments, and report any changes in health or wellbeing promptly.
  • Support emotional, social, and spiritual needs to enhance quality of life.
  • Assist with mobility, activities, and engagement tailored to individual preferences.
  • Support end-of-life care where required.

Medication (Support Role)

  • Ensure medications are received on time and report any issues or delays to senior staff.

Communication & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate daily records and complete clear handovers at the end of each shift.
  • Report incidents, accidents, and any concerns promptly to senior staff.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, and healthcare professionals.

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Follow safeguarding procedures and protect service users from abuse or neglect.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, GDPR, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Keep all training and competencies up to date.

Health & Safety

  • Follow Health & Safety, Infection Control, Hygiene, and Fire Safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free environment, including service users’ rooms.
  • Use appropriate PPE and promote safe working practices.

General Duties

  • Work flexibly to meet service needs, including day/night shifts, 12-hour shifts, weekends, and overtime.
  • Support colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Participate in activities and promote meaningful engagement for service users.
  • Assist with audits and report any concerns to management.
  • Undertake any other duties required to support the efficient running of the Care Home.

Requirements

  • Experience in care (preferred)
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (preferred)
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Caring, compassionate, and reliable approach
