Job Summary
We want to be the water company people want to be supplied by and want to work for.
Do you want to play your part in assuring water quality for 4.4 million people across the UK? Can you plan and prioritise effectively?
Imagine a role where your expertise directly ensures the health and safety of 4.4 million people across the UK. We are searching for a proactive Inorganic Chemistry Analyst who possesses the drive to plan, the precision to prioritize, and the passion to make a tangible difference. Our mission is to be the premier water provider of choice—not just for our customers, but for our employees as well.
By joining our elite Water Quality team, you will dive into a world of sophisticated science, performing both routine and non-routine trace analysis using cutting-edge analytical instrumentation. Your day-to-day will go far beyond the bench, involving complex data interpretation, equipment maintenance, and the strategic organization of workloads. You will play a pivotal role in the future of our operations by assisting in the implementation of innovative methodologies that set new industry standards.
We are committed to your professional evolution. We actively encourage you to pursue qualifications that deepen your mastery of Water Supply Regulations, providing the support needed to achieve full membership in your relevant professional body. To thrive in this environment, you should hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 3 or an equivalent scientific qualification, paired with an insatiable curiosity for scientific discovery.
You will be working within market-leading laboratories that are currently undergoing an ambitious expansion. Our modern facilities are designed to foster collaboration, and we empower every team member to share ideas that help us refine our processes.
This is a part time role working weekends, usually 9am-5pm. You will work 16 hours a week, offering a structured yet dynamic environment where your contributions are truly valued.
What to expect from our recruitment process:
- Visa Sponsorship: Please note that we are unable to provide Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship for this role.
- Right to Work: You must provide proof of your Right to Work in the UK during onboarding.
- Background Checks: Any offer of employment from South East Water will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of identity, employment referencing, and DBS checks.

- Ensure that instrumentation is operated and analysis performed in line with the Laboratory Management system.
- Assist with the maintenance and troubleshooting of Chromatographic, Spectrophotometric, Colorimetric and preparatory equipment.
- Analyse and interpret data, calculate results and complete all laboratory paperwork.
- Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
- Ensure data is accurately entered into the Laboratory Information Management System within set timeframes.
- Ensure that the sample stability and turnaround for the given analysis is met.
- Help to prepare standards, reagents and Quality Control Samples in accordance with company internal procedures.
- Work towards being a competent person according to Regulation 16(2)(d)(i) of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 216 (as amended) and to actively pursue Continued Professional Development.
- Always maintain good laboratory practice and housekeeping.
- Support in method validation when required.
- To participate in the auditing of internal practices to ensure compliance to the management system.

- Had a relevant academic qualification or scientific subject at NVQ level 3 equivalent or above.
