Full job description

The Role:

3D Bio-Tissues (3DBT) is a Newcastle Upon Tyne based biotech company developing advanced bio-manufacturing platforms to produce biological tissues for clinical, food, and other industrial applications.

We are looking to recruit a motivated Lab Technician for our Operations Team to support the smooth and compliant operation of the laboratory by maintaining cleanliness, managing stock and purchasing, and ensuring activities are carried out in accordance with health, safety, and ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to leverage their existing skills while gaining new ones.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Regular cleaning and maintenance of laboratory spaces, equipment, and communal areas in line with health, safety, and quality requirements.

Stock Management

  • Monitoring inventory levels of consumables, reagents, and equipment to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Maintaining accurate stock records and labelling systems to support traceability under ISO 9001:2015.
  • Identifying shortages proactively and liaising with the team to ensure smooth operational workflows.

Purchasing & Logistics

  • Placing orders with approved suppliers for lab consumables and reagents, in line with documented purchasing procedures.
  • Tracking deliveries, resolving supplier issues, and ensuring all incoming goods are checked and recorded appropriately.
  • Receiving, unpacking, and storing deliveries to maintain good stock rotation and compliance with quality standards.

General Laboratory Support

  • Assisting scientific staff with basic laboratory tasks where required.
  • Supporting audits, inspections, and document control activities related to ISO 9001:2015.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and quality systems.

Whilst these form your key duties, the role requirements may evolve and change to meet the needs of the organisation and work priorities as determined by LGL. This will be discussed with you, if applicable, within review discussions.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • At least 1–2 years’ experience working in a laboratory environment (academic, industrial, or NHS).
  • Educated to NVQ level 2
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with a methodical approach to work.
  • Familiarity with working to documented procedures and quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001:2015).
  • Good communication skills and basic IT competency (e.g. Excel, ordering systems, email).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small team.

Desirable

  • Experience of purchasing and stock control in a laboratory or regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of GLP, COSHH regulations, and relevant health & safety procedures.
  • Experience supporting quality audits or maintaining records for quality systems.
  • Proactive, hands-on approach with willingness to take ownership of responsibilities.
