About the role:

Justteachers is seeking a full-time Therapeutic Support Assistant to join a specialist provision near Oakham starting in September 2026 on a long-term, temporary basis.
The setting supports pupils with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, alongside associated behavioural and communication difficulties. The provision takes a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to education, focusing on emotional regulation, relationship-building and personalised support in line with EHCPs.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils’ wellbeing and engagement, working within a structured, supportive environment that prioritises consistency, routine and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group therapeutic support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation using trauma-informed approaches
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to promote engagement and wellbeing
  • Implement behaviour and therapeutic support strategies consistently
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams
  • Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times of the school day
  • Promote routine, structure and positive coping strategies
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, wellbeing and behaviour

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or trauma-related needs (school, care or similar setting desirable)
  • A calm, patient and emotionally resilient approach
  • Understanding of therapeutic or trauma-informed practices
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to remain consistent and adaptable in a specialist setting
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to work in the UK

Pay: £104.00-£125.00 per day
