Job Description
To provide high-quality care and support to children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) within a residential setting of up to 4 children.
The role involves helping children develop life skills, emotional resilience, and positive behaviours, while ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and development in line with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
Key Responsibilities
Care and Support
- Provide consistent care, guidance, and emotional support to children and young people.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with children.
- Support children in managing emotions and behaviours positively.
- Promote children’s self-esteem, independence, and personal development.
- Implement individual care plans, placement plans, and risk assessments.
Safeguarding and Protection
- Ensure the safeguarding and welfare of children at all times.
- Follow safeguarding policies and report concerns in line with child protection procedures.
- Maintain safe boundaries and promote positive behaviour management strategies.
- Support children in understanding safe behaviours and decision-making.
Daily Living Support
- Assist children with daily routines, including meals, personal hygiene, and bedtime routines.
- Support attendance at education, training, or employment.
- Encourage participation in social, recreational, and community activities.
- Help young people develop independent living skills.
Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records including daily logs, incident reports, and behaviour records.
- Contribute to care planning and review meetings.
- Ensure documentation meets Ofsted and regulatory requirements.
Teamwork
- Work as part of a supportive staff team to provide consistent care.
- Attend team meetings, training, and supervision sessions.
- Communicate effectively with social workers, families, schools, and other professionals.
Health and Safety
- Ensure the home is safe, clean, and well-maintained.
- Follow health and safety procedures.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and challenging behaviours.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working with children or young people, preferably with EBD or challenging behaviour.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work shift patterns including weekends and sleep-ins.
- Full UK driving licence (desirable but often essential).
Qualifications
- Level 5 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete within required timeframe).
- Training in safeguarding, behaviour management, and first aid
