Full job description

The Scottish Ambulance Service is a key part of NHS Scotland, providing urgent medical care and support to over five million people nationwide. Our mission is to deliver the highest quality of care, safeguarding lives and aiding recovery, with a dedicated team who bring compassion and expertise to those most in need.

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and professional Infection Prevention and Control Auditor (IPC) to join the Scottish Ambulance Service Infection Prevention and Control Service within the East Region. This important role supports the delivery of planned audit activity across Service stations and vehicles, helping to maintain high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and safe patient care.

Working in partnership with Regional Teams, the post holder will support compliance with the NHS Scotland National Cleaning Services Specification monitoring framework and the Service’s internal monitoring platform. They will provide proportionate, evidence-based guidance, revisit sites where required, and support staff and contracted cleaning teams to understand and apply the required cleaning and IPC standards.

We are seeking an individual with experience in one or more areas such as infection prevention and control, cleaning standards, audit, assessment, compliance or quality governance. The successful candidate will be organised, confident working independently across a geographical area, and able to communicate findings clearly, constructively and professionally to support improvement, assurance and safe practice.

  • Deliver planned audit schedules across stations and vehicles, ensuring completed audits are uploaded promptly and accurately.
  • Review audit data, identify trends and prepare clear reports or summaries to support regional and IPC governance arrangements.
  • Provide constructive feedback, training and practical guidance to staff and managers to support compliance with IPC and cleaning standards.
  • Use strong communication, organisational and digital skills, including Microsoft Office 365 and electronic reporting systems, to support effective audit delivery.
  • Bring a relevant qualification at SCQF Level 8/9, or equivalent experiential learning gained through relevant roles.
  • Hold a full, valid driving licence and be willing to travel across the East Region, including overnight stays where required.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact:

Karen Burnett, Head of IPC and Vaccination Services 07385038848 or Karen.burnett2@nhs.scot

Hayden Donaldson, Lead IPC Practitioner 07833483864 or Hayden.donaldson@nhs.scot

Interviews will be in person on 15th September, Perth Ambulance Station

Please note: we anticipate a high level of interest in this position and may close the vacancy early once a sufficient amount of applications are received. Therefore, please make sure you complete and submit your application at an early stage.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK websitehere.

Please note that The Scottish Ambulance Service is NOT licensed to issue certificates of sponsorship under current UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship to work with us.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.
