If your answer to these questions is a resounding ‘yes!’ then you could be just the person we’re looking for to fill an exciting role at Scottish Forestry. We’re currently seeking a Tree Health Operations Manager to join our small Tree Health team to help protect the range of tree species found across Scotland.

Working closely with our Tree Health Officers and Tree Health Data team, you will play a key role in Scottish Forestry’s statutory and non-statutory surveillance programme for pests & diseases.

What you will do

This role will take the operational lead for SF on the response to current and potential threats to tree health from pests and diseases. Working closely with the Tree Health Planning and Contingency Manager, the Tree Health Policy team, the Tree Health Programme and Risk Manager and the Tree Health Data Manager to ensure delivery of priorities.

The role will involve managing Scottish Forestry's aerial and ground surveillance programme's along with the contracts that are aligned to these operations. You will also lead and develop Scottish Forestry's Tree Health Officers with line management responsibility for these roles. In addition, there will also be opportunities for close collaboration with colleagues in Scottish Government and its agencies, plus UK Government agencies (especially DEFRA, Forestry Commission, and Forest Research) and agencies in the other UK devolved administrations.

Main Duties

  • Manage the operational delivery of tree health surveys, statutory and non-statutory actions
  • Lead on Scottish Forestry's yearly aerial and ground surveillance operations including managing the contracts involved with these operations
  • Manage the tree health operational team, currently consisting of 3 Tree Health Officers
  • Lead training and advice on Tree Health
  • Ensure Tree Health reporting statistics are available for operational procedures
  • Represent Scottish Forestry in the UK Operational Managers meetings
  • Work closely with the Tree Health Data Manager to ensure data and operational processes are aligned
