Housing Support Officer

Unity Housing Support is a provider of an intensive housing support service in the London borough of Brent. We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and versatile individual to join our service as a Housing Support Officer. This role gives the opportunity to spend your days making a real difference to vulnerable adults in the community and allows you to use your own intuition and knowledge to effectively manage a client list of vulnerable adults, so as to aid them to achieve independence.

It is vital that you have; a solution-focused approach, a desire to promote health and independence and an empathetic personality.

Responsibilities:

As a Housing Support Officer (HSO) your primary responsibility is to support a caseload of up to 25 tenants currently living in our supported accommodation. These tenants will have varying social and health needs. It will be your responsibility to ensure that they maintain their occupancies through close monitoring and through the delivery of weekly support meetings. As part of this your duties will include:

  • Building and maintaining a good professional relationship with your tenants.
  • Generating and implementing person-centred support plans, with set objectives and outcomes measured.
  • Carrying out weekly support meetings to progress those plans.
  • Accurately and proficiently making a record of all; interactions, plans, incidents and operational matters.
  • Responding to tenant emergencies and managing crises as they arise.
  • Where needed, making referrals to specialist support agencies.
  • Form and maintain good relationships with other agencies, including referral partners and specialist support agencies.
  • Conduct meaningful business development with referral partners to help grow the service.
  • Conduct an ongoing risk assessment of your tenants.
  • Inspection of properties for their condition and to identify any fire risks.
  • Completing the sign-up of new tenants.
  • Monitor Housing Benefit claims and responds to any issues of payments.
  • Quality Check UHS documents.
  • Supporting the Head of Operations with ad hoc duties as required.
  • Respond to complaints or concerns.
  • Respond to cases of safeguarding concerns.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Have a good understanding of vulnerable adults and their support needs.
  • Have good organisation skills.
  • Be versatile and able to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understand compliance and how to improve compliance in a support setting.
  • Be confident in handling complex and difficult situations.
  • Be able to confidently work with other agencies in the best interests of your tenants.
  • Have a drive to continuously improve and grow the service.
  • Have a compassionate personality with a genuine desire to help others and make a difference.

Job Type:

  • Full Time and Permanent (Part-time is not available)

Working Pattern:

  • Monday to Friday - 09:00 - 17:30 (work outside of these hours may be required subject to service user needs)

Requirements:

Essential:

  • 2 years experience in the Support Sector.
  • Excellent level of spoken and written English.
  • Proficient with IT equipment and software, including Microsoft packages and Google documents.
  • Holds a valid UK licence and has access to a vehicle.

Desired:

  • 1 year + experience in Intensive Housing Management.
  • Experience and training in welfare benefits.
  • Knowledge of property management.

Salary: £20,000 - £25,000
