- Prepare patients for ophthalmic examinations and clinical procedures.
- Assist ophthalmologists and optometrists during examinations and minor surgical procedures.
- Provide occasional support as a Theatre Runner, as and when required, to meet the operational needs of the service.
- Support patients with contact lens fittings and provide guidance on insertion, removal and ongoing care where required.
- Provide appropriate post-operative information and instructions to patients.
- Clean, maintain and prepare ophthalmic instruments and equipment in accordance with required standards.

- Ensure all clinical documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate professionally, respectfully and compassionately with patients, colleagues and clinicians.
- Provide patients with appropriate information and guidance regarding their eye care.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with relevant clinical, information governance, infection prevention and health and safety requirements.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team.
- Work flexibly across both Leicester and Nottingham sites, according to clinical and service requirements.
- Undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the role and level of responsibility, as required to support the effective operation of the service.
About You
- We are looking for someone who has:
- Proven UK experience working as an Ophthalmic Technician, Ophthalmic Assistant or in a closely related ophthalmic clinical role.

- Experience working within a clinical or ophthalmic environment.
- Experience using electronic patient record systems and general IT systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- A professional, approachable and compassionate manner.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to put patients at ease.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team.
- The ability to work independently while recognising when to seek advice or support from a senior clinician.
- A strong commitment to delivering high standards of patient care and maintaining patient dignity and confidentiality.
- Flexibility and willingness to work across both Leicester and Nottingham.
- Availability to work Monday to Saturday between 8:00am and 8:00pm, according to the needs of the service.
- A relevant Ophthalmic Technician qualification or certification would be advantageous but is not essential where the candidate has strong relevant UK experience.
