Role Purpose

The Claims Handler Role plays a critical part in recovering non-fault motor losses from third-party insurers, protecting company spend and accelerating cash recovery.

This role is outcome focused and commercially driven, requiring an individual who can take ownership of claims end-to-end, challenge liability robustly and use every available tool investigation, evidence, negotiation and supplier leverage to achieve full and fast recovery.

Key Accountabilities

Claims Ownership & Recovery

  • Manage a portfolio of non-fault motor claims from FNOL through to full recovery.
  • Proactively pursue liability admissions, settlements, and recoveries against third-party insurers.
  • Drive claims forward with urgency, reducing cycle times and aged debt.
  • Make confident liability and settlement decisions within delegated authority.
  • Escalate strategically where progress stalls, applying pressure at the right time.

Investigation & Evidence Control

Conduct thorough liability investigations, including:

  • Accident circumstances
  • Driver statements
  • Third-party challenges
  • Supporting evidence and documentation
  • Ensure all recoveries are supported by clear, defensible evidence.
  • Identify early opportunities to strengthen recovery prospects and mitigate risk

Supplier & Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with credit hire, repair, legal and claims suppliers to maximise recovery outcomes.
  • Hold suppliers to account against agreed SLAs and KPIs.
  • Challenge reserves, costs and delays that negatively impact recovery timelines.

Cost Control & Commercial Impact

Reduce claims spend by:

  • Accelerating recoveries
  • Minimising unrecovered losses
  • Identify trends and root causes driving losses and delays.
  • Make evidence-based recommendations to improve recovery performance and reduce future exposure.

Skills, Experience & Capability

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience handling motor claims, ideally with non-fault or recovery exposure.
  • Strong understanding of liability, credit hire, and third-party insurer processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to recover losses efficiently and assertively.
  • Confidence working autonomously and managing competing priorities.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication able to challenge insurers clearly and professionally.
  • High level of competence in Microsoft Excel and MS Office.
  • Strong administrative discipline with attention to detail.
