Full job description

Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse (full time / flexible arrangements position, currently grant funded until March 2027)

This is an exciting opportunity to join the friendly, dynamic team at the Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse (CSA Centre) as our new Business Support Officer – Practice Development. You will play a vital role in facilitating the smooth running of the CSA Centre, supporting our mission to reduce the impact of child sexual abuse through improved prevention and better response. Please be sure to read the Additional Information Sheet alongside the job description and person specification, for full details on the particular working arrangements for this role.

The CSA Centre has a diverse and ambitious workplan and you will provide administrative support across it, with a particular focus on projects relating to improving the knowledge, skills and confidence of the children's workforce in relation to child sexual abuse.

We are looking for a highly motivated and committed individual with strong organisational skills and experience in administrative roles, and the ability to manage a challenging and varied workload to support a diverse range of objectives.

This is important work - the CSA Centre conservatively estimates that one in ten children will experience some form of child sexual abuse before age of 16, and our ambitious programme seeks to improve the knowledge, skills and confidence of professionals (social workers, teachers, social workers, nurses etc.) in identifying and responding to child sexual abuse. We have already made great progress, but there is much more to be done – and we need your help to do it!

About us

Since we were founded in 2017, the CSA Centre has sought to improve the understanding of and response to child sexual abuse. Funded by the Home Office and hosted by Barnardo's, our team collates and analyses existing research, policy, practice, and the experiences of survivors, to allow us to fill the gaps with new research, insights and analysis. With a multi-disciplinary team, we then use that evidence and insight to develop new approaches and apply learning in practice through training and resources.

We bring about change by:

  • Collating and analysing existing research, policy, practice and the real experiences of those affected, and filling the gaps we identify with new research, insights and analysis;
  • Using that evidence and insight to challenge and improve existing policy and practice, develop new approaches and increase everyone's knowledge and confidence to more effectively tackle the issue.

By professionals, researchers, policymakers, businesses, and communities working together, we believe that we can tackle child sexual abuse.

Working arrangements

We are friendly team, with a strong culture of staff support and a commitment to well-being. We believe in creating equality of opportunity in the workplace and supporting people to manage their work-life balance; we are therefore open to offering flexible working arrangements.

Applications for full and part term work will be considered.

The role is home based with only occasional travel required, usually to London.

This role is currently funded until 31 March 2027, in line with the grant funding arrangements for the CSA Centre.

The CSA Centre is committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce. We actively encourage applications from disabled candidates and candidates from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, as they are currently under-represented at the CSA Centre.

Pay & Reward Framework

We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo's values. We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.

For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which was rolled out in April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a part of our People & Culture Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo's and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay.

Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours. More details on Barnardo's pay framework can be found upon application.
