Full job description

We are the world’s largest university press. That means we serve the academic community as no other publisher can. We work in partnership with institutions and learned societies to bring a world of knowledge to the fingertips of students and researchers worldwide.
The goal is impact. Together with our academic communities, we curate and seamlessly connect together the ideas that push their fields forward, so they can learn from them, add to them, and continue a virtuous cycle of scholarship.
And because we are a part of the academic community and guided in everything we do by our mission, we re-invest in our people, our publishing, and the world-leading research institution of which we are part.

About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Publisher to join our Journals Editorial team with the Academic Division. The role will be a key member of our global Publishing Support Team, providing administrative and editorial support across our portfolio of medical journals.

Key responsibilities in this role will include:
Support Publishers in the management and development of their portfolio of titles.
Suggest ideas for analysis and provide data analysis to enable evidence-based decision making for strategic/editorial development of journals.
Work collaboratively and productively with other functional groups (especially production, marketing, product, and platform) to deliver an excellent service.
Assist in maintaining the journals contracts repository and maintain best practice in data management.
Organize meetings, attending and taking minutes as appropriate, undertaking catering, travel and room booking arrangements and paying of expenses, in accordance with hospitality policies.
Completing relevant payments and tracking efficiently and accurately.
Provide general support for renewals, bids, launches, and acquisitions, working with the relevant teams to produce analysis, conduct competitive research, and source quotes, and contribute to the written proposal document.
Work with other Journals departments globally as required to accomplish tasks and enhance communications between our global offices.
Participate in departmental projects including ownership of a relevant key user project.
Train new Publishing Assistants in key systems, processes, and ways of working.
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
The ability to pick up new tasks and learn new systems and processes quickly.
A good team spirit and the ability to work collaboratively.
Self-discipline with the ability to manage and balance priorities under time pressure and manage one’s own workload independently.
Excellent attention to detail and numeracy.
Excellent spoken and written English and the ability to influence and persuade both internal and external parties.
Experience with Microsoft Office products.
Some previous experience in journals publishing or transferable professional experience.
A basic understanding of academic publishing, including editorial processes, production process, marketing, industry trends, systems, competitors, and technology.
This advert may close earlier than the stated deadline, so please apply as soon as possible.

Benefits
We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We are open to discussing flexibility in respect to working patterns, dependent on role. We also have a great variety of active employee networks and societies.
We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.
This role comes with the added benefit of a discretionary annual payment.
