Job details
Full job description
voco Grand Central Hotel are looking for a Full-Time Painter and Decorator to join our team in creating a warm voco welcome for our guests!
Our locally curated voco Grand Central stands strong in Glasgow’s city centre, bringing together un-stuffy service and a warm Glasgow welcome to our business and leisure guests alike. Our Hotel is full of over 140 years of culture, history, and storytelling with our relaxing spaces for guests to enjoy.
At voco, everyone’s a host and ready to provide our guests with the relaxed but attentive stay that they desire. We are reliably different, a trusted name offering an informal, non-pretentious stay that leaves our guests with a lasting impression. With a focus on our environment, you will be greeted by environmentally conscious innovations from start to finish.
Bring our hotel to life with your skills and attention to detail.
We’re looking for a talented, qualified Painter & Decorator with previous hotel experience to join our Maintenance team.
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you’ll play a key role in keeping our hotel looking its best, ensuring our bedrooms, public areas and back-of-house spaces are maintained to a high standard. From refreshing tired paintwork to carrying out detailed repairs, your work will help create the welcoming, well-presented environment our guests expect. We’re looking for someone who takes real pride in their craft, has a keen eye for detail and understands that, in hospitality, the little things make a big difference. You’ll be hands-on, proactive and passionate about delivering quality workmanship, while working closely with our Maintenance team and colleagues across the hotel.
What you’ll be doing
- Transforming spaces by preparing surfaces, filling holes, sealing cracks and delivering high-quality paint finishes.
- Refreshing interiors by removing old paint and wallpaper through sanding, scraping and other appropriate techniques.
- Maintaining high standards by inspecting completed work, identifying imperfections and ensuring every finish meets expectations.
- Carrying out repairs to plasterboard and other surfaces to keep the hotel in excellent condition.
- Planning ahead by assessing jobs, identifying material requirements and ensuring the right supplies are available when needed.
- Managing materials and equipment by monitoring stock levels and keeping tools clean, organised and in good working order.
- Working safely by following Health & Safety procedures and maintaining a clean, safe working environment.
- Supporting the wider team by working collaboratively with Maintenance colleagues and other hotel departments, minimising disruption to our guests wherever possible.
What we’re looking for
- A recognised qualification in Painting & Decorating.
- Previous experience in a hotel or similar hospitality environment.
- A genuine passion for your trade and pride in delivering a quality finish.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to spot and resolve defects.
- A good understanding of Health & Safety requirements and safe working practices.
- A practical, can-do attitude with the ability to prioritise workloads and work independently.
- A flexible team player who is happy to support other maintenance tasks and learn new skills.
- A professional approach and an understanding of the importance of the guest experience.
- Flexibility is essential, with occasional weekend working required to support the operational needs of the business.
Why join our team?
This is an opportunity to put your skills to work in a dynamic hotel environment, where your contribution will be visible every day. You’ll be part of a supportive Maintenance team, helping to protect the quality, appearance and standards of the hotel while developing your skills along the way.
If you’re a skilled Painter & Decorator who takes pride in their work and wants to make a real difference to the guest experience, we’d love to hear from you.
We offer you the following benefits…
- Financial security - £14.65 per hour (£30,472 annum Full Time Equivalent), guaranteed hours, paid overtime, a free meal on shift, paid holidays, support and enhanced sick pay! Plus, Tronc paid monthly if in eligible role. Access to Wagestream - a financial wellbeing app giving you the opportunity to save, track and withdraw your pay as you earn it.
- Growth and development – extensive training, opportunities for career progression across the world, plus 2 paid days volunteering per year with a cause of your choice.
- Colleague perks - worldwide discounted room rates and discounted F&B whilst on employee rate (IHG has over 6,000 hotels and growing), plus generous friends and family rate. Discounts through our portal on your supermarket shop, experiences and loads of retailers on our perk’s portal.
- Wellbeing – generous maternity/paternity pay, employee assistance programme available 24/7 and access to mental health first-aiders.
- Hotel specific benefits – generous discounts in our Champagne Bar (*must be booked in line with process) plus a variety of different gifts on milestone occasions to celebrate with you!
