Experienced Painter and Decorator
Job details
Full job description
Experienced Painter & Decorator
£30,000 per year | Full-time, permanent | Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole
Prime Finish Interiors is a family-run decorating business based in Poole, specialising in high-quality interior decorating, kitchen resprays, furniture spraying and worktop refurbishment.
As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced and qualified Painter & Decorator to join our team.
This isn't a trainee position. We're looking for someone who already knows their trade, takes real pride in their work and is confident managing decorating jobs independently to a high standard.
If you're currently self-employed and enjoy the decorating but could happily leave behind the quoting, paperwork, chasing payments and finding the next job, this could be a great opportunity to become part of a growing local business while simply concentrating on doing what you do best.
The role
You'll primarily be responsible for carrying out interior decorating projects in customers' homes, working mainly across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
You'll usually manage your own jobs, so you'll need to be comfortable working independently, organising your working day and communicating directly and professionally with our customers.
Your work will include:
- Full preparation of walls, ceilings and woodwork
- Painting walls and ceilings
- Preparing and finishing doors, frames, skirting boards and other woodwork
- Hanging wallpaper where required
- Protecting customers' homes and keeping your working area clean and tidy
- Managing jobs independently from preparation through to completion
- Communicating with customers throughout the job and representing Prime Finish Interiors professionally
We now focus predominantly on interior work, although there may occasionally be a small exterior decorating project for an existing customer.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced decorator who can hit the ground running and who doesn't need to be taught the fundamentals of the trade.
You will need:
- NVQ Level 2 / City & Guilds in Painting & Decorating
- Proven professional painting and decorating experience
- Excellent preparation and finishing skills
- The ability to work independently and manage your own jobs
- High standards and strong attention to detail
- A professional, friendly manner when working in customers' homes
- To be clean, tidy, reliable and respectful of customers' properties
- Your own van and a full UK driving licence
- To live within a realistic daily travelling distance of the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area
Experience hanging wallpaper would be a strong advantage, although it isn't essential.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their work and wants to become a long-term part of the business rather than simply move from job to job.
What we offer
- £30,000 salary
- Permanent, full-time employment
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm
- 37.5 hours per week
- 30 days' paid holiday per year, including bank holidays
- Workplace pension
- All tools, equipment and materials provided for each job
- Mileage paid for work outside the BCP area
- DBS check paid for by Prime Finish Interiors
- Predominantly local work across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole
- Primarily indoor residential decorating
- Opportunity to develop additional skills, including training in airless spraying
- A regular diary of work without having to find customers, quote for jobs or chase payments
- The opportunity to become an important part of a small, established and growing family business
About Prime Finish Interiors
Prime Finish Interiors is a family-run business with a strong reputation for high-quality workmanship and customer service.
We work predominantly in customers' homes, so the way we work is just as important to us as the finished result. Our customers trust us with their homes, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We're a small team, which means the person joining us won't simply be another employee. We're looking for someone who wants to become invested in the business, take ownership of their work and grow with us over the longer term.
We'd encourage anyone considering applying to take a look at our website to get a feel for who we are, the standard of our work and the type of projects we undertake.
Location
Our work is primarily across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, with occasional projects elsewhere in Dorset and Hampshire.
You will travel directly to customers' properties and will therefore need your own van and a full UK driving licence.
Mileage is paid for work outside the BCP area.
Application process
Because this is an experienced position, professional painting and decorating experience and an NVQ Level 2 / City & Guilds qualification are essential.
Please apply with your CV and details of your decorating experience.
Shortlisted applicants will initially have an informal conversation with us, followed by an interview and, where appropriate, a paid practical trial day so that we can both make sure the role is the right fit.
The successful applicant will be subject to a probationary period and a Basic DBS check, which will be paid for by Prime Finish Interiors.
