Full job description

Main purpose of job:

This role is suited to people who remain calm under pressure, are good at problem-solving and have excellent interpersonal skills, with an empathetic nature. Paramedics must have the knowledge to provide specialist, clinical, social and holistic care to patients in an ambulance & hospital environment. The role provides clinical challenges to practice in an autonomous way utilising your skills and knowledge as well as having the opportunity to develop new clinical skills.

Job Overview:

To provide quick, controlled transfers to & from healthcare facilities, keeping patients stable while in transit by using advanced equipment and medical expertise.

To be able to work under pressure and respond effectively without delay.

To be able to assess patients and to provide emergency treatment and making diagnosis.

To be able to use emergency equipment, ventilators, defibrillators & other lifesaving/diagnostic equipment.

To monitor and administer medication, pain relief and intravenous infusions as required, using specialist equipment & skills.

To communicate effectively with patients, their relatives and friends and other medical facilities staff

To provide training to colleagues on how to use first aid interventions correctly.

Working effectively within scope of practice, ensuring patients receive the highest quality standard of care.

Using appropriate knowledge and skills to make professional judgements, conducting diagnostic procedures and treatments as required, safely and to the appropriate level of training and competency.

Responsible and accountable for clinical decisions made during the course of duty.

To complete and to maintain competent, professional patient notes and records.

Completing vehicle daily inspections, ensure that the ambulance consumables are stocked before every shift and checking all equipment is in operational readiness. E.g Para bag, trauma bag, medication etc.

Appropriate use of communications and navigation tools.

Where trained, carrying out blue light response driving.

Physically capable of performing the role and responsibilities expected of the post holder e.g. Manual Handling and Lifting
