We value our team’s health and happiness, and these initiatives form a key part of our commitment to a positive and supportive working environment.
We are seeking to appoint a flexible team player who is able to work with all members of the school’s community, across Laithes Primary School. They will need to be well motivated, tenacious and be confident enough to use their own initiative. In addition, they must have a firm but fair manner and a genuine desire to support the families of the children with whom they work. They will be expected to uphold all the school policies and procedures, paying particular attention to the positive behaviour and reward strategies. The successful candidate will be given the support of a caring school team.
Purpose of the Role:

- Encourage good relations and effective dialogue between parents and the school;
- Support parents and their children through transitions;
- Provide parenting support, run classes, and promote positive parenting.
- Work with schools and parents in collaboration to build programmes that increase levels of support for children’s learning and well-being;
- Work with people from all walks of life, in a non-judgemental manner;
- Support parents of children with social, emotional, or behavioural issues.
- Offer information and referrals to local services.
- Facilitate parent engagement in learning and transitions.
- Promote good attendance, identify causes of absence, and work with families and attendance officers
- Maintain records, evaluate work, and participate in cross-agency groups.
- Support the school’s work on positive mental health for all.
Skills and experience you will need:
- Be qualified to at least NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a related discipline;
- Experience with children and families, delivering support, and working in communities;
- Experience in a mental health role with children, possibly school based, and a commitment to further training;
- Have experience of working within the community, particularly with children and their families;
- Have excellent communication skills including the ability to make good use of ICT;
- Have a strong commitment to multi-agency working;
- Good listening skills and an understanding of common family problems;
- The ability to deal with private information and sensitive issues;
- A strong, calm and confident approach in difficult situations;
- The ability to work well with pupils, parents, teachers and other professionals;
- The ability to manage workloads, keep records, and work as part of a team.
- An understanding of the law about education and keeping children safe.
Training will be available for the successful candidate as well as the opportunity to network with other Parent Support Advisors in Barnsley.
We are developing an educational offer for learners in the 21st Century and we’d love to hear from you if you feel that you could add value to our team and be part of the exciting developments ahead.
