What you'll bring to the team

Dive into an adventure at SEA LIFE Birmingham!

Fancy spending your days surrounded by glittering scales, humongous tentacles and some otterly adorable sea otters? We’re on the lookout for Aquarists to join our curatorial team right here in the heart of Birmingham city!

Why join us?

At SEA LIFE, your career can be as exciting as the creatures you’ll care for. With a structured progression plan for our display teams across the UK, you’ll have the chance to grow from this role (which sits between Levels 1 and 5) to potentially becoming a Senior Aquarist. And with SEA LIFE locations across the globe, the opportunities are endless – who knows where the tide could take you?

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring our animals are happy, healthy and thriving. Here’s a snapshot of your responsibilities:

  • Caring for our animals with high standards of health and welfare.
  • Keeping our life support systems running smoothly – think filtration, water quality and environmental alarms.
  • Preparing tasty diets for our creatures and delivering treatments under direction.
  • Managing water parameters, backwashing filters and conducting health checks.
  • Supporting animal training and enrichment
  • Providing 24-hour alarm cover on a rota basis and ensuring all medications and chemicals are safely handled and recorded.

We currently have 2 positions available. One part-time (3 days per week) aquarist on a 12-month fixed term contract and one full-time permanent aquarist. Both roles include working weekends and bank holidays.
