Full job description

We are looking for a hands-on, commercially minded Management Accountant to support TRADE’s multi-site café operation. This is a practical role for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, improving reporting, and turning numbers into clear actions for operations. You will help us tighten our month-end process, improve forecasting, and build consistent performance visibility across sites.

This role suits someone who has worked in hospitality, retail, multi-site, or another fast-moving operational business.

Key responsibilities

Management accounts and month-end

  • Prepare or oversee monthly management accounts with clear commentary (site and group level)
  • Produce monthly P&Ls by site, with analysis of key drivers and variances vs budget and prior periods
  • Ensure proper accruals/prepayments and clean, consistent coding
  • Maintain simple, reliable balance sheet reconciliations relevant to management reporting

Performance reporting

  • Build and maintain KPI reporting for the business, including:
  • Sales, covers, average spend, product mix
  • Gross margin, stock variance, wastage
  • Labour hours, labour %, rota performance
  • Overheads and controllable costs
  • Provide clear insight on what is driving performance and what actions to take

Budgeting, forecasting, and cash

  • Support annual budgeting and rolling forecasts (group and site level)
  • Help model pricing changes, margin impacts, labour planning, and new initiatives
  • Assist with cashflow forecasting and short-term cash visibility
  • Support scenario modelling for growth, capex, and investment decisions

Systems and process improvement

  • Improve month-end timetables and reporting consistency
  • Help integrate operational data from EPOS, stock, rota, and invoice systems into simple reports
  • Recommend and implement controls that reduce leakage (stock, labour, purchasing)
  • Create templates that make performance easier to understand for non-finance stakeholders

Stakeholder support

  • Work closely with operations to explain results and agree corrective actions
  • Support the MD/Founders with ad hoc analysis and decision support
  • Liaise with external accountants/bookkeepers as required to ensure smooth close

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Proven experience producing management accounts and performance reporting
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills (comfortable with models, pivots, lookups, clean templates)
  • Commercial mindset: able to link financials to operational reality
  • Confident communicating with non-finance teams and keeping things practical
  • Reliable, organised, and able to work independently with limited supervision

Nice to have

  • Experience in hospitality, retail, FMCG, or multi-site operations
  • Familiarity with EPOS/stock/rota platforms and pulling useful data from them
  • Part-qualified or qualified (AAT/CIMA/ACCA/ACA), but experience and capability matter most
  • Comfort with improving processes and building lightweight reporting packs

Working style and expectations

  • Part-time, flexible working pattern (agreed schedule each week)
  • Hybrid: some on-site time helpful initially, then can be mostly remote if output is strong
  • Clear deliverables and deadlines, with a focus on accuracy and useful insight

Key deliverables

  • Monthly management accounts and a short commentary pack
  • Site-level KPI dashboard updated monthly (or weekly if appropriate)
  • Forecast and cash visibility updated on an agreed cadence
  • A gradually improving month-end process that gets faster, cleaner, and more consistent

What we offer

  • A practical, high-trust role with real influence on performance
  • Flexible part-time structure
  • Opportunity to shape reporting and improve finance foundations in a growing operator

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £140.00-£160.00 per day

Expected hours: 16 per week

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Discounted or free food
  • Employee discount
  • Flexitime

Experience:

  • Management Accounting: 1 year (required)

Work authorisation:

  • United Kingdom (required)

Work Location: In person
