Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented part-time Laboratory Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring our products meet the stringent quality standards that Barley Chalu is known for. This position involves conducting various tests and analyses on our pretreatment, powder coating, and anodising processes to ensure compliance with industry and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory tests and analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Conduct titrations to analyse the pretreatment process, ensuring optimal chemical concentrations and process efficiency.
  • Utilise DataPaq systems to monitor and read curing oven temperatures for the powder coating process, ensuring proper curing conditions.
  • Prepare and maintain chemical solutions used in pretreatment, powder coating, and anodising processes.
  • Monitor and record process parameters and test results accurately.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality control procedures and standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on any quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve process efficiency and product quality.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and functioning properly.
  • Organise and document all test results, calibration records, and quality reports systematically.
  • Keep up with the calibration schedule and conduct both internal and external calibrations of laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare reports on laboratory findings and present them to management.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in surface treatment processes.

Qualifications:

An interest in chemistry would be advantageous. Relevant practical laboratory work experience could also be beneficial and welcomed. Below is listed for the ideal candidate, but alternative background experience is also welcome.

  • Proven experience as a laboratory technician, preferably in the pretreatment, powder coating, or anodising industry.
  • An understanding of chemical processes and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Experience with titrations is desirable.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in using laboratory equipment and software for data analysis.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organisational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Hours:

  • 20 hours per week plus overtime.
  • 6.00 am – 10.00 am (Basic hours)
  • Monday to Friday
  • Some Saturday work if factories are running (once/twice a month if required).
  • Overtime is paid at an overtime rate.
  • Paid weekly.
