Full job description

About Balance

Balance is a UK payments consultancy. We help small and medium-sized owner-operated businesses, primarily in retail, hospitality, and home improvement, get a payment setup that works for how they actually trade. That means the right hardware, the right provider, lower costs, and an intentional relationship after the contract is signed.

The payments industry has a habit of vanishing once the contract is in place. Businesses get rotated through call centres, the rep they signed with moves on, and the cost creep starts. We set Balance up to be different; a long-term partner that stays close and accountable. It's why our customers tend to stay for the long term.

We're a small, deliberate team. Each of us has a clear remit and is backed to deliver it. We hire slowly, brief properly, and trust people to get on with it.

The Role

Balance has invested in a marketing engine that's working, across PPC, the website, content, email, direct mail, and WhatsApp, with clear playbooks and a team of specialists running each part of the system. What we're looking for now is someone to take ownership of the lead flow it generates.

The Growth Manager will be responsible for the quality and volume of leads we produce across the board. Day-to-day execution in each channel sits with the specialists, but you'll know your way around the channels well enough to dive in when needed. What you'll focus on is the brief, the targets, and the coordination that makes the whole thing pull in one direction, plus the hands-on work between channels, like CRM data and list management.

You'll report directly to the founder. The team running each channel; content, design, tracking, and others is part of the system you'll be coordinating.

What Success Looks Like

You'll be measured on one thing above all else: the flow of ICP-fit leads into the business. That means both volume; how many leads we're generating and fit; what proportion of them genuinely match our ideal customer profile.

Everything in the role serves that outcome.

Cost Discipline

We grow leads within an agreed CAC limit, not above it. Pulling more leads in at a price that doesn't pay back isn't the goal. The judgment we're hiring for sits in the trade-offs between volume, fit, and cost.

What You'll Own

  • Responsibility for ICP lead volume, quality, and CAC across our marketing engine
  • Coordinating the channels so the parts of the engine reinforce each other rather than compete
  • Briefing the team and tracking how each channel is performing: setting clear objectives, agreeing targets, and making sure each channel delivers against them
  • Hands-on CRM and list management: keeping data clean, segments current, and the right people getting the right campaigns
  • Messaging quality across the engine: most email and blog copy comes from the content team; you'll review for ICP alignment, push for clarity, and write the copy yourself for new campaigns and landing pages
  • Lead flow reporting: a weekly view of where leads are coming from, which channels are producing ICP fit, and where unqualified traffic is leaking in
  • Keeping tracking, attribution, and automation sound so the numbers we're working from are the right ones
  • Refining and documenting the playbook as we learn: capturing what works so it can be repeated

Who We Think Will Thrive Here

We think this will suit someone who:

  • Has run multi-channel B2B marketing before, ideally for SME or owner-operated businesses
  • Works well with specialists; briefs them clearly, keeps work moving, can tell when things are on track and when they're not
  • Has enough working knowledge of the main channels to dive into a campaign, segment a list, or troubleshoot a setup when needed
  • Confident with copywriting; particularly for landing pages and new campaign work, even if you'll be reviewing more than writing day to day
  • Works from the data, and believes in compounding monthly progress rather than big-bang relaunches
  • Takes ownership of outcomes and faces into problems rather than working around them
  • Is comfortable refining an existing playbook, not redesigning from scratch

This probably isn't the right seat for you if:

  • You'd prefer to be a pure strategist with no hands-on channel ownership
  • You'd rather build a marketing function from a blank sheet than work inside what's already there
  • You're looking for a senior leadership title at this stage

Practical Details

  • Hours: Around 8 - 12 hours a week to start, with scope to grow as new campaigns launch, flexible within UK business hours
  • Type: Contract, with the potential to grow as the business does
  • Location: Remote, UK-based
  • Reports to: Founder
  • Onboarding: A structured 90-day plan with clear milestones at 30, 60, and 90 days

How to Apply

No CV needed. Please send a short note covering:

  • A multi-channel campaign you've led: what you set out to achieve, how you worked with the team delivering it, and how it went
  • How you think about lead volume, lead quality, and CAC: and the trade-offs between them
  • Your availability and hourly rate

Pay: £40.00-£60.00 per hour
