Gastropub Supervisor – The Talbot

Great food, proper cocktails and a pub full of life.

The Talbot is a busy gastropub with a strong reputation for food and a much-loved Sunday roast. We’re lively throughout the week, with weekends bringing a packed pub, bustling bar and busy restaurant service.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Supervisor who enjoys that energy, takes pride in great hospitality and knows how to bring a team together. If you love making guests feel welcome and keeping a busy service flowing, we’d love to hear from you.

The role

You’ll be a key part of the day-to-day running of the pub, leading from the front across the bar and floor. You’ll work closely with management and the kitchen to deliver a well-organised service, while giving guests the friendly, personal attention that keeps them coming back.

Alongside running shifts, you’ll stay on top of customer emails and booking enquiries, helping turn initial interest into confirmed visits, celebrations and events.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading busy shifts with confidence, giving the team clear direction and practical support.
  • Working hands-on behind the bar and on the floor, serving drinks, making cocktails and looking after guests.
  • Coordinating with the kitchen on food timings, menu availability, allergies and special requests.
  • Keeping service organised throughout the week, especially during busy weekends and Sunday roasts.
  • Managing customer emails, booking enquiries and private hire requests, with prompt, welcoming and professional replies.
  • Keeping bookings accurate and making sure the team understands each party’s requirements before arrival.
  • Resolving customer concerns calmly and taking ownership of the guest experience.
  • Helping colleagues develop their skills and maintaining high standards of service.
  • Supporting opening and closing, cash handling, stock control, cleanliness and food safety.

What we’re looking for

  • Previous bar experience and confident cocktail-making skills are essential.
  • Experience working in a busy gastropub, restaurant or food-led pub.
  • A natural host who enjoys meeting people and delivering thoughtful service.
  • Someone who can lead by example, motivate colleagues and stay calm when the pub is full.
  • Strong organisation and confident written communication for handling emails and bookings.
  • An understanding of how the bar, floor and kitchen work together to deliver a great service.
  • Previous supervisory or shift-leading experience.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, including Sundays.
