Full job description

Terms: permanent 12-18 hours per week, including weekend and early evenings.

For over 30 years, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal has helped to transform children’s healthcare in Bristol, funding pioneering treatment, facilities and research at Bristol Children’s Hospital and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael’s Hospital. By uniting philanthropy with world-class medicine, the charity enables clinicians to deliver exceptional care and improve outcomes for babies and children across the South West and beyond.

Our long-standing partnership with Aardman underpins the charity’s national profile and reach, while initiatives such as Gromit Unleashed demonstrate the scale, creativity and impact of our work.

The Gromit Unleashed Shop is integral to our fundraising activity and the successful applicant for this role will support visual merchandising and eCommerce fulfilment, ensure that all stock is merchandised properly, and displays are maintained to the highest standard. You will also share responsibility for stock room management and the upkeep of all staff and storage facilities. As a key holder, the successful candidate will also be responsible for security on-site and be a trusted and professional team member, reporting directly to the Shop Manager.

You will have experience overseeing other team members and be able to motivate them to ensure that all expected work is completed to a high standard across the shift you are supervising. You will also have experience working within operational, safety and HR process and policies, enabling you to support the business and your colleagues.

Previous experience in a retail supervisor or team lead role and a flexible approach to work patterns is essential. Please state your availability to work on your application.

Based at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, you will be responsible for opening and closing the store and the end of day financial reconciliation. You will be a brand ambassador for the Gromit Unleashed Shop, The Grand Appeal, and its associated activities, and you will have a proactive and positive approach to work.

You will also support our online store by picking and packing customer orders, processing incoming product deliveries, and completing other tasks as instructed by the Shop Manager.

You will need to be flexible, with the potential to take on increased hours when requested during peak times, and some weekend and evening availability will be required.

If this sounds like the right workplace for you, you have the required skills and experience, and you are looking for a new challenge, we would love to hear from you. The postholder will be required to complete a DBS disclosure check.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Key holder, opening and closing the store
  • Oversee a small team during your shift, distributing tasks and ensuring they are completed in an appropriate timeframe to the correct standard
  • Oversee the maintenance of shared staff and stock room areas during your shift
  • Process sales transactions, including cash handling and accurate input of sales
  • Assist customers with their enquiries
  • Answering incoming phone enquiries, record/share messages with the shop manager if required.
  • Work towards sales goals and priorities
  • Inform customers about the charity and promote upcoming fundraising events
  • Maintain product displays: Re-stocking and re-facing products, merchandising when new products are received. Completing other product display tasks as instructed and ensuring the shop is always clean and presentable.
  • Supporting the Shop Manager with ad hoc tasks, for example: product presentation and packaging tasks.
  • Stock organisation: Optimising storage of products in all stock rooms to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stock processing: Receiving deliveries in the loading bay from our suppliers and checking quantities & quality are as expected and stored or displayed as instructed.
  • Inventory checks and supporting end of month stock count.
  • Picking and packing: Accurate retrieval of products for online orders and packing ready for collection, liaising with our couriers to ensure all online orders are dispatched.
  • Stock transfers: Assist with small stock transfers between our online and physical retail storerooms.
  • Waste disposal: Ensure all recycling and other waste is taken to the waste disposal points at the centre.

Wider responsibilities include:

  • Data protection: Protecting an individual's personal data and recording data and image use according to procedure is important to The Grand Appeal. The position holder must uphold this responsibility in their work, complete required training and comply with all communicated expectations.
  • Development: Complete/attend training, meetings and other events at your manager’s request.
  • Supporting the wider team: Attend and assist at some of our fundraising events and carry out other tasks/duties to support teams and colleagues across the organisation

This role profile is not exhaustive and is subject to review in conjunction with the post holder and according to future changes/developments in the charity. The selected candidate will be appointed subject to a DBS check.

Working hours for this role will be between 9 am and 8 pm Mon-Saturday, and 10:30 am - 5:30 pm Sunday.

Pay: £13.10-£13.80 per hour
