National Zoological Society of Wales – Welsh Mountain Zoo

Location: Colwyn Bay, North Wales (Board meetings held primarily in person)

Help shape the future of Wales' National Zoo

The National Zoological Society of Wales – Welsh Mountain Zoo is seeking to appoint three new Trustees to join its Board.

As Wales' National Zoo and a leading conservation and education charity, we care for over 60 species, welcome more than 150,000 visitors each year, and contribute to conservation efforts both in Wales and internationally.

We are looking to recruit:

  • Two Trustees with extensive experience in finance, investment and business strategy, ideally including experience of government and/or commercial funding. Candidates with strong professional networks and charity experience would be particularly valuable.
  • One Trustee with extensive experience in biodiversity conservation, with an understanding of local and global conservation frameworks and the role of modern zoos in species conservation.

About the Role

As a Trustee, you will work alongside fellow Board members and the executive team to:

  • Provide strategic leadership and governance.
  • Help shape the future of Wales' National Zoo.
  • Support the charity's long-term sustainability and conservation impact.
  • Share your professional expertise to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organisation.

Board meetings are held quarterly and are primarily in person at the Zoo. This voluntary role also includes meeting preparation and occasional committee or advisory work where appropriate. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
