JOB TITLE: Stock Control Supervisor

HOURS: 22.5 hours – 3 days a week (Monday – Friday)

BAND: 2 point 3 - £13.02ph

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Warehouse and Logistics Manager

Summary

We are recruiting for a Stock Control Supervisor to work at our newly opened Donation and Logistics Warehouse next to our existing Furniture Outlet on Pineapple Park, Road One.

Our trading business is an important part of the income generation and fundraising department and plays a vital role in working in and with our community to ensure we can support the fantastic work carried out at the Hospice.

You will preferably have experience of the charity retail sector or donations/fashion experience at supervisor level, leading a team of volunteer sorters to support our retail outlets.

You will work closely with the Warehouse and Logistics Manager to lead the end-to-end stock flow for the shops, ensuring the right volume, quality, and mix of product reaches the shop floors and online channels. You will supervise sorting, grading, rotation, replenishment, and back of house organisation to help maximise sales, Gift Aid, and income per donation—while maintaining high standards of health & safety, compliance, and a brilliant volunteer experience.

You will lead a large group of volunteers so leadership and people skills are an important skill that will be vital in your success.

Previous knowledge of Gift Aid and Epos till systems would be an advantage.

As a Stock Control Supervisor, you will play a key role in the trading team, working with colleagues across the department to support the hospice’s work.

St Luke’s is an adult hospice based in Winsford that cares for people in mid and south Cheshire who are suffering from cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. We offer specialist treatment, care, advice and support to many seriously ill people and their families every year. PURPOSE:

To ensure the smooth running of the stock sorting and grading operation for the retail estate with the aim of having the right stock is in the right shop at the right time. Promote and drive Gift Aid through excellent customer service and team management. Working alongside the Warehouse and Logistics Manager, ensure the efficient and timely processing of donations to help maximise income for the Hospice Shops.

Adhere to all H&S aspects of the warehouse and logistics operation to ensure standards are kept to a high level including the reporting and investigation on incidents

The successful candidate should have previous supervisory experience either in charity or commercial fashion and excellent leadership skills. They should also be highly organised and have the ability to manage and develop a positive and productive team of volunteers and be able to demonstrate this at interview.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The Stock Control Supervisor will run the daily sorting and grading hub at our Warehouse and Distribution Centre. This role leads a team of volunteers to turn public donations into vital funds for hospice care. The supervisor ensures high-quality stock is safely processed, stored, and sent to our shops or e-commerce team.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Volunteer Management

  • Lead and motivate a team of volunteers to meet daily sorting and grading targets.
  • Train volunteers on sorting guidelines, safety rules, and quality control.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and positive environment for all volunteers.

Stock Grading & Processing

  • Oversee the sorting and grading of all public donations into clear categories: Premium, Standard, Clearance, and Recycle/Rag.
  • Identify high-value, unique, or vintage items suitable for online sales (e-commerce).
  • Manage the workflow smoothly from initial donation intake to final shop floor distribution.

Donation Intake & Customer Service

  • Provide excellent customer service when greeting members of the public at the warehouse donation point.
  • Accept and record donations safely, ensuring a tidy and organised intake area.
  • Promote and grow the Retail Gift Aid scheme by signing up new donors and processing the paperwork and donations accurately.

Stock Control & Seasonal Storage

  • Organise and manage the rotation stock system to ensure a steady supply of fresh items for our shops.
  • Supervise the seasonal storage system, making sure winter and summer stock is safely packed and easily found.
  • Prevent stockroom bottlenecks by keeping items moving quickly through the warehouse.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all items meet legal safety standards, such as checking toy safety marks and furniture fire labels.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free working environment in the warehouse.
  • Follow all hospice policies regarding manual handling and safe lifting.

Other

  • To undertake any reasonable duties as may be required by the Warehouse and Logistics Manager.
  • To work across agreed hours with Warehouse and Logistics Manager.
  • To follow incident reporting process.
  • To be an ambassador for the hospice.
  • To demonstrate a supportive attitude to staff and volunteers.
  • Respect confidentiality applying to all Hospice areas.
  • To ensure cost effective use of resources, to be responsible for managing the relevant budget, and to co-operate with your line manager in response to regular financial reporting.

Training & Education:

  • To develop training of self and volunteers.
  • To support the team with their statutory and mandatory online training requirements.
  • To be responsible for liaising with Warehouse and Logistics Manager regarding your own developmental needs.

Health & Safety:

  • To adhere to Fire and Health & Safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment at all times. To ensure all H & S procedures are followed at all times in your areas of responsibility.

Policies and Procedures:

  • To take responsibility for being up to date with current hospice policies and procedures and to adhere to these.
