We're building a consistent team of Support Workers who are confident, patient and reassuring and who understand how to provide structured, relationship-led support when someone may become distressed or display behaviours that challenge.

About the role

Support will be delivered 2:1 during the day and 2:1 overnight, so teamwork and consistency between Support Workers will be particularly important.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing safe, respectful and person-centred support
  • Supporting an autistic person with learning disabilities and complex needs
  • Understanding and responding to non-verbal communication
  • Supporting communication using approaches including Makaton and PECS
  • Providing structure, consistency and reassurance
  • Using Positive Behaviour Support approaches
  • Applying appropriate de-escalation strategies
  • Responding safely and calmly to behaviours that may challenge
  • Medication administration following appropriate training and competency
  • Supporting meaningful activities and everyday routines
  • Recognising changes in presentation and escalating concerns appropriately
  • Following individual care plans, behaviour-support plans and risk assessments
  • Maintaining accurate care records
  • Working consistently as part of a 2:1 support team

Who we're looking for

Relevant experience should include autism and/or learning disabilities, with experience supporting behaviours that challenge particularly valuable.

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
  • De-escalation
  • Makaton
  • PECS
  • Non-verbal communication
  • PMVA or similar physical-intervention approaches
  • Trauma-informed care
  • Safe and supportive observations

We're particularly looking for people who are confident, reassuring, determined and patient.

You need to be comfortable remaining calm and composed when someone's behaviour or presentation becomes challenging.

Shift patterns

We're recruiting across days, nights and weekends.

Day shifts: 08:00–20:00

Night shifts: 20:00–08:00

Overnight support includes both waking-night and sleep-in provision. The specific overnight working arrangement will be discussed during the recruitment process.

We're particularly interested in experienced Support Workers who can progress through recruitment, compliance, training and shadowing promptly.

Appointment will be subject to appropriate recruitment and compliance checks, including Right to Work verification, full employment history, satisfactory references and an appropriate Enhanced DBS check.
