The Role

Coventry University is seeking to appoint Academic Marking Assistants to support assessment and marking activity across a range of subjects aligned to the College of Engineering, Environment and Science.


This role offers a flexible opportunity for suitably qualified professionals and academics to contribute to high‑quality assessment in a modern, professionally focused university.


Joining Coventry University as an Academic Marking Assistant offers, the opportunity to contribute to a supportive academic community committed to fairness, consistency, and excellence in assessment and the student experience.


Academic Marking Assistants will work under the direction of Module Leaders to support the marking of summative and formative assessments, ensuring assessment decisions are accurate, consistent and aligned with approved marking criteria and academic regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Mark student assessments accurately and fairly against moderated marking criteria
  • Provide clear, constructive written feedback to support student development
  • Adhere to assessment deadlines and quality assurance requirements
  • Engage with moderation, standardisation and training activities as required
  • Maintain confidentiality and academic integrity at all times

Marking will be undertaken in line with University policies, quality assurance processes, and agreed turnaround times.


Applicants are invited with expertise in one or more areas aligned to the College, including (but not limited to):


  • Aerospace Engineering: Aerospace science, aerospace structures and materials.
  • Aviation Management: Operations and scheduling, data analytics
  • Mechanical , Manufacturing & Metrology: CAM and Digital Manufacturing, materials science.
  • Motorsport: Powertrain and EV powertrain.
  • Electrical Engineering: General Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • AI and Data Science: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision and Data Analytics.
  • Computer Science: Programming, Web Development and Software Engineering.
  • Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security: Network Security, Pen testing, Reverse Engineering and Cryptography.
  • Forensics: Digital Forensics.
  • Civil engineering : Materials, structures, geotechnics
  • Built environment: Quantity surveying, project planning
  • Geography/environment: Environmental sustainability

Our Successful Candidate


You will hold a first degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience. You will possess subject expertise appropriate to the assessments being marked and have experience of assessment and/or marking within higher education or a comparable professional context. Strong written communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and a high level of ICT proficiency are essential, alongside an understanding of how digital tools support teaching, learning, and assessment. The role also requires you to be able to manage workload independently and work effectively to deadlines. A recognised teaching qualification would be desirable.
