Full job description

Working as part of an established production team, we’re looking to recruit an Operative to work in our Brewery.

The Operative role at Ossett Brewery is essential to ensure the production of high-quality beer. This role involves QA analysis and reporting, wort production, yeast cropping, dry hopping, multiple CIP processes, centrifuge operations, filtration, carbonation, product transfers and raw material management. The operative will work with the Key Operator of Brewing to ensure products are produced to and within company specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cellar Operations: Yeast cropping, operating centrifuges for beer separation and perform beer filtration processes; conduct dry hopping; ensure proper execution of CIP procedures and adhering to production plan.
  • Brewing: To operate brewing equipment to produce high quality beer; support the brewing process from raw material handling to fermentation monitoring and related CIP processes.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality checks throughout the brewing and cellar process and ensuring all quality measures are adhered to and any deviations or issues are reported to the Key Operator, Production Manager/Head of Brewing.
  • Process Support: Follow standard operating procedures and protocols to ensure consistency, efficiency and quality; assist in the optimisation in all processes to improve product quality.
  • Material Handling: Ensure all raw materials are booked and handled in correctly, batch codes validated, properly stored and used efficiently.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all equipment is in good working condition, performing routine cleaning and maintenance of all brewing and cellar equipment.
  • Health and Safety: Use appropriate PPE as required, following all H&S regulations, and conduct regular safety checks to create a safe working environment.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of brewing and cellar activities and parameters, and assist in the preparation of production reports and logs, ensuring any anomalies are reported.
  • Team Collaboration: Work within brewing team to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Assist and participate with all training, team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement initiatives.
  • KPI Monitoring: Assist in monitoring all KPI’s relating to brewing and cellaring operations, and ensure targets for extract loss, microbiological quality and cost per litre are met.

About you:

  • One year working within a brewing environment, or similar experience working within a production or operative role.
  • Positive and committed attitude.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Flexibility to work a flexible shift pattern, plus occasional weekend work.
  • Confidence and ability to work autonomously, as well as being part of a team.

The operative will work occasional weekends and will work on a rolling shift pattern of:

Early: 6am - 2:30pm

Day: 2pm - 10:30pm

Night: 10pm - 6am
