Awake Overnight Personal Assistant / Carer RequiredSupporting 16-Year-Old Twin Boys with Muscular Dystrophy

We are looking for compassionate, reliable and experienced Personal Assistants/Carers to join a small, dedicated care team supporting our 16-year-old twin boys at home.

The boys have Muscular Dystrophy and have complex care needs. They are non-verbal, tube-fed, wheelchair users and require assistance with all aspects of their personal and clinical care.

This is a rewarding opportunity for experienced carers who are passionate about supporting young people with complex needs and providing safe, respectful and person-centred care.

We are looking for people who are interested in a long-term position and can become a consistent and trusted member of the care team.

Hours AvailableAwake Overnight Shifts

  • 2–3 awake nights per week
  • 8:45pm – 6:45am
  • Additional daytime shifts may also be available
  • Pay: £20–£22 per hour

The role involves providing continuous overnight support, including monitoring the boys' BiPAP ventilation and oxygen saturation (SpO₂) and responding appropriately to their care needs throughout the night.

Main ResponsibilitiesPersonal Care

  • Supporting personal care, including pad/nappy changes
  • Repositioning throughout the night
  • Maintaining comfort, dignity and wellbeing
  • Supporting all aspects of the boys' individual care routines

Mobility & Manual Handling

  • Assisting with transfers using a hoist
  • Following safe manual handling procedures
  • Supporting wheelchair mobility where required
  • Carrying out transfers safely and in accordance with care plans

Communication

  • Understanding each boy's individual communication methods
  • Responding to gestures, facial expressions and other non-verbal cues
  • Ensuring their wishes, needs and comfort are understood and respected

Medication & Clinical Care

  • Administering prescribed medication via PEG/JEJ tubes
  • Supporting complex feeding regimes using feeding pumps
  • Monitoring and supporting BiPAP ventilation overnight
  • Monitoring oxygen saturation using SpO₂ equipment
  • Following detailed care plans and clinical guidance
  • Recognising and responding appropriately to changes in the boys' condition
  • Understanding epilepsy and following the appropriate emergency procedures

Essential Experience

Applicants must have previous hands-on experience supporting children or young people with complex care needs.

Essential experience includes:

  • Experience supporting children/young people with complex disabilities
  • PEG/JEJ feeding and medication administration
  • BiPAP ventilation
  • Oxygen saturation monitoring
  • Hoist transfers and manual handling
  • Experience supporting individuals with epilepsy
  • Ability to follow detailed care plans and clinical instructions
  • Ability to work independently and remain calm in unexpected situations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Patience, compassion and a caring approach
  • Reliability, punctuality and commitment to consistent care

Please Note

This position is not suitable for applicants without relevant complex-care experience.

Due to the physical nature of the role, including regular hoisting, transfers and repositioning, applicants must be physically able to safely carry out these duties.

Please do not apply if you are unable to undertake manual handling duties safely or have a condition that prevents you from doing so.

We are specifically looking for carers with genuine, recent experience of PEG/JEJ feeding, BiPAP, hoisting/manual handling and caring for children or young people with complex needs.
