Full job description
A Head Gardener at a Michelin Key estate is responsible for overseeing the horticultural aspects of the property, ensuring that the gardens and grounds are maintained to the highest standards. This role combines hands-on gardening with leadership, focusing on maintaining and enhancing the estate’s established landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Garden Maintenance: Oversee regular maintenance tasks such as lawn care, mowing, weeding, deadheading flowers, pruning, trimming, and fruit and vegetable picking. Develop and manage a schedule for these tasks to ensure efficiency.
- Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of gardeners, providing guidance and training to ensure high-quality work. Assign tasks and monitor performance to maintain standards.
- Planning and Design: Collaborate with estate management to plan and implement garden projects, including planting schemes, seasonal displays, and landscape enhancements.
- Budget Management: Assist in budgeting for garden-related expenses, including purchasing supplies and equipment.
- Sustainability Practices: Implement sustainable gardening practices, such as composting, water conservation, and organic pest control, to promote environmental responsibility.
- Visitor Engagement: Coordinate and collaborate on tours and programs that showcase the estate’s natural beauty and historical significance.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in horticulture, with a strong background in garden management and design.
- Leadership skills with experience managing a team.
- Strong organizational and planning abilities.
- Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff, visitors, and management.
