Full job description

A Senior Soft Landscaper is responsible for overseeing the installation and maintenance for installing all planting from perennials in P9s through to specimen trees of more than 8 tons and preparation of soft landscape elements. This role involves leading a team, planning and executing landscaping projects, and ensuring high standards of horticultural practice. The position requires extensive experience in landscaping, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Management:

  • Planning and overseeing soft landscaping projects from conception to completion.
  • Ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

2. Team Leadership:

  • Leading and supervising a team of landscapers, providing guidance and training.
  • Delegating tasks effectively and ensuring team productivity.

3. Plant Installation and Maintenance:

  • Overseeing the planting of trees, shrubs, flowers, and other greenery according to design plans.
  • Ensuring proper care and maintenance of all plants, including watering, weeding, pruning, and fertilising.

4. Soil and Turf Management:

  • Preparing soil for planting by adding appropriate fertilisers and conditioners.
  • Overseeing the laying and maintenance of turf, including mowing, edging, and aerating.

5. Quality Control:

  • Monitoring plant health and addressing issues such as pests or diseases promptly.
  • Ensuring the highest standards of horticultural practice are maintained.

6. Client Interaction:

  • Meeting with clients to discuss their landscaping needs and preferences.
  • Providing expert advice and recommendations on plant selection, garden design, and maintenance.

7. Equipment and Safety:

  • Ensuring all gardening tools and machinery are used safely and maintained properly.
  • Enforcing health and safety regulations on all projects.

8. Reporting and Documentation:

  • Keeping detailed records of project progress, plant inventories, and maintenance schedules.
  • Reporting to the Landscape Manager or Project Manager on project status and any issues encountered.

Qualifications:

  • GCSEs or equivalent; further education in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field (preferred).
  • Significant experience in gardening, landscaping, or horticulture, with a proven track record in a supervisory role.
  • Certifications in horticulture or related areas (advantageous).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Extensive knowledge of plant species and their care requirements.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent project management and organisational abilities.
  • Proficiency in using gardening tools and machinery.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to perform manual labour.
  • Attention to detail and a keen eye for design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Advanced understanding of landscaping principles and techniques.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 23 kg).
  • Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • May involve early morning starts and weekend work depending on project requirements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £27,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
