What does a Technician for Pest Control Services do at Southwark Council?
As a Pest Control Technician, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering core pest control services across Southwark. From identifying infestations to carrying out treatments and prevention measures, your expertise will play a vital role in safeguarding health and enhancing the quality of life for our community.
You’ll work across diverse environments, including:
- Residential and council-owned properties
- Public spaces such as parks
- Commercial premises and communal areas
The role involves managing a wide range of pests, including rodents, cockroaches, bed bugs, wasps, and more. You’ll also handle stray dog collection and pigeon proofing, ensuring humane and safe practices at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, identify, and treat pest infestations using industry best practices.
- Recommend and implement pest-proofing measures to prevent future issues.
- Handle, store, and apply pesticides safely in compliance with COSHH regulations.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to residents, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Collect payments for services and maintain accurate records of visits and actions.
- Participate in out-of-hours call-out rotas for live rat incidents and stray dog collection.
- Mentor apprentices and trainees, sharing knowledge and best practices.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a professional with:
- Qualifications: BPCA Diploma in Pest Control (Parts 1 & 2), RSPH Level 2 in Pest Management, or equivalent.
- Experience: Proven track record in pest control, including working with baits, traps, poisons, and equipment.
- Skills: Ability to provide excellent customer service, prepare reports, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge: Understanding of pest biology, relevant legislation, safeguarding protocols, and equality considerations.
- Attitude: A problem-solver with strong communication skills, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
