Crisp Malt is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of malted barley and specialty malted cereals to the world’s brewing, distilling and food industries.

And since 1870 we’ve been making malted Barley for brewers and distillers all over the world from our home maltings in Norfolk. Today, we continue that in 4 countries, across 7 Maltings with specific emphasis on supplying distilleries and craft breweries.

We have an exciting opportunity at our Gt Ryburgh Crisp Malt site for a Hygiene Operator to join our team.

Reporting to the Production Manager; This role will be responsible for the upkeep across all areas of the Gt Ryburgh site, ensuring that all areas are maintained to acceptable standards.

Working closely with the operations team ensuring that safety and operating standards are maintained. The role will be both indoor and outdoor working using a wide variety of cleaning equipment, including sweeping, shoveling, pressure washing, use of a tractor, road sweeper and tanker bowser.

This role is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 07:00am to 16:00pm.

Key responsibilities:


  • Ensuring Internal hygiene audit score targets are constantly met and exceeded
  • Conduct monthly drain cleaning across the site
  • Ensuring the site is continuously at a standard ready for an audit and/or visit at all times
  • Work closely with pest control contractors to target areas of concern with hygiene activities
  • Ensure that consumables are managed effectively to minimise wastage.
  • Ensure the site and its facilities across all areas are kept in good order to a high standard.
  • Safe use of FLT and Tractor Sweeper.


  • Complete any training identified as necessary to fulfil your duties.
  • Ensure that your own training is up to date and that any additional training is requested.
  • Actively take part in generating a personal development plan with line manager.


  • Work closely with the engineering department to report faults and the timely repair to minimise production lost time by supporting the operation of the companies CMMS.
  • Support all areas of site production to ensure the safe and efficient production of our products. As and when required undertake production duties to support teams.
  • Work across all areas of the production departments as and when required. Full training will be given.
  • Support all areas as necessary to meet the daily/weekly production requirements and to support colleagues.

Health & Safety

  • Comply with company policies and any training received at all times.
  • Health & Safety of yourself and colleagues is always maintained by following Safe Systems of Work, training and wearing of correct PPE as required. Reporting of Accidents, Near Misses and Hazards Chemical storage to be kept locked and in good order at all times, all chemical drums must be clearly labelled with lids on.
  • Hygiene equipment such as hoses, lances, brooms and shovels to be stored correctly so as not creating hazards in the workplace



  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and without supervision.
  • Able to work within a fast past environment to ensure process timings and quality requirements consistently met
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours
  • Strong communication skills to develop working relationships


  • FLT licence preferred but not essential, training will be provided
  • Previous experience of tractor driving with attachments such as road sweepers and bowser tanks. Training will be provided
  • Relevant hygiene experience but not essential
  • Use of high-pressure cleaning systems
  • Understanding of the safe use of chemicals, training will be provided
