Pest Controller Dog Warden

Job description

Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent

Play a key role in keeping properties in the city safe and free from pest species and promoting responsible dog ownership.

The Pest Control/Dog Warden Team provide a professional pest control and dog warden service to residents and businesses in Leicester. We are a small team, and our goal is to manage and reduce pest related issues and promote responsible dog ownership through treatments and education. We carry out a mixture of both domestic and contract work.

You’ll have the opportunity to gain qualifications and participate in ongoing training.

This is a full-time, permanent post working 37 hours per week from Monday-Thursday 8.30am-5pm and Friday 8.30am-4.30pm. You will report to the office in the morning and work within an office environment and across the city as your work dictates. You may be required to work out of normal office hours on occasions. You’ll be expected to work in all weathers.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll treat a variety of pests throughout the city for both privately and council owned properties and undertake contract work as well as provide pest control services for bedbugs, rats, mice, cockroaches, fleas, ants, and squirrels. You’ll offer advice and carry out treatments such as baiting, caging, trapping, and dispatching. You’ll work with a wide range of services within the council, communicating via telephone, email, and face to face. You’ll regularly undertake drain surveys.

You’ll provide a comprehensive dog warden service to the residents and businesses within the city including the pickup and safe transportation of stray dogs to our kennelling provider.

What you’ll need

Appointment will be subject to a full UK driving licence and proof of having obtained your certificate in the level 2 open award in the principles of rodent control or proof of certification to a CRRU UK approved training course within the last 5 years.

With experience in working with members of the public, ideally in a pest control environment, you’ll have excellent communication skills. You’ll have some IT skills with experience in working with smart phones, computers, and Microsoft Office software. You’ll be able to write accurate reports, keep records and have strong organisation skills. Confident in working at height and in confined spaces, you’ll have the ability to lift weights.

What we can offer you

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You’ll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We’ll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including discounts on city buses and trains. For an illustrative value of your benefits package, take a look at our benefits calculator. You will be provided with a works van in order to carry out your duties.
