Full job description
We require an enthusiastic, experienced Grower or candidate with horticultural training, to join an established team working at our busy Wholesale and Retail horticultural nursery in Linton, Wetherby.
Basic working hours would be 8:15 am - 4:45 pm Monday to Friday with more flexible hours, including weekends , required during our busy periods, March - June and September - October. Weekend work could be used as part of the standard 40 hour week or as Overtime by mutual agreement.
Below is a guide to the type of work to be undertaken by the successful candidate, the list is by no means exhaustive.
The Role
- Dealing with Wholesale and Retail Customers, both face to face and on the phone.
- Collating customer orders.
- Propagation.
- Production of Bedding Plant and Perennial crops.
- Use of Automatic transplanter, tray and pot filling machinery.
- Watering.
- Mixing/applying feeds.
- Monitoring of Pest & Diseases and implementing agreed spray programmes.
- Chemical spraying (PA1 and PA6 required)
- Maintaining chemical and fertiliser inventories.
- Weed control in cropping and non-cropped areas.
- Maintaining Glasshouse environments.
- Helping to Implement and maintain Heath & Safety.
- Other nursery and general maintenance work, as required.
The Candidate
- Team player (very important!)
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Attention to detail.
- Reliable.
- Flixible.
- Positive 'can do ' attitude.
- PA1 and PA6 spraying qualifications (Qualification can be gained later!)
- Experience in Horticulture / Growing or minimum qualifications such as City and Guilds or similar.
- Technical knowledge of growing principles, including irrigation and pest and disease and crop protection.
- A willingness to learn!

This is a physically demanding role! (Pushing trolleys, bending, stretching and carrying)
It gets very Hot in Summer
It can be very Cold in Winter
There WILL BE WEEKEND WORK required during the busy spring season (March - June)
