Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our team, responsible for maintaining and enhancing outdoor environments across various sites. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for horticulture, gardening, and landscape maintenance to develop their skills within a professional setting. The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of tasks aimed at ensuring the safety, appearance, and functionality of outdoor spaces.

Duties

  • Conduct landscape maintenance including mowing, pruning, planting, and fertilising to uphold high standards of appearance and health of green spaces.
  • Operate a variety of power tools such as lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers to carry out routine maintenance tasks efficiently.
  • Use hand tools and mechanical equipment like excavators and irrigation systems for construction, repair, and installation work.
  • Assist with specialised horticultural activities including planting schemes, soil preparation, and pest control.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal operation and safety standards.
  • Support construction projects related to site development or improvements as required.
  • Monitor environmental conditions and report any issues affecting site safety or plant health.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.

Qualifications

  • Experience in landscape maintenance, gardening or horticulture is highly desirable.
  • Mechanical knowledge relevant to operating power tools, excavators, and irrigation systems.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in groundskeeping and construction activities.
  • Prior experience with construction or site development projects is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of plant care, horticultural practices, and environmental sustainability principles.
  • Ability to operate machinery safely and effectively in outdoor environments.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently.
  • Physical fitness to perform manual work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a horticulture or landscaping certification will be considered an asset.
