Full job description

We seek a qualified and well-experienced dispensary assistant to join our friendly team of permanent staff, to start as soon as possible. You will assist the pharmacist and another dispensary assistant with all dispensary and service activities, and serve customers at the counter when needed.

The position is full-time Monday to Friday, 5 days per week. Very occasionally, you might be asked to work on a Saturday, but that isn't necessary. The opening hours are 9:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday, and 9.00am to 3.00pm Saturday. With half-hour unpaid lunches, this full time position amounts to an expected regular 42.5 paid working hours per week.

The main duties of your position will be to:

  • Dispense efficiently and accurately all types of prescriptions; NHS and private.
  • Request prescriptions from surgeries on our patients' behalf, as needed.
  • Serve customers by phone and at the counter for all their prescription and counter prescribing needs.
  • Manage stocks of prescription medicines - ensure adequate quantities in stock, build and place orders, process deliveries, check accuracy of invoices, request credits as needed, check expiry dates and remove stock from shelves before their expiry.
  • Manage stocks of consumables - bags, bottles, labels, token paper, A4 paper, stationery, etc.
  • Prepare medicine deliveries to housebound patients, as needed.
  • Communicate with our patients' doctors, nurses and carers, as needed.
  • Help prepare dossette boxes and arrange delivery or collection of them.
  • Help provide a range of NHS and private services; NMS, Pharmacy First, vaccinations, blood pressure, contraception, etc.
  • Assist the pharmacy with the provision of all pharmacy projects, reports and audits.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Enthusiasm and self-motivation.
  • A friendly, tactful, professional and "can-do" attitude.
  • A pleasant personality and history of working well in a pharmacy team.
  • A methodical, detail-oriented and accurate approach to tasks.
  • Ability to work efficiently, prioritise tasks and meet daily and weekly deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills; verbal and written English.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Integrity, respect for others and understanding of confidentiality issues.
  • Punctuality and reliability with working to their schedule.
  • References must be provided that support the above.

The successful candidate must have worked in a paid dispensary assistant position in a community pharmacy in the U.K. for at least 2 years, should have completed the pharmacy Dispensary Assistant Course (DAC) or equivalent, and might have completed the pharmacy Technician course or equivalent (and if so, be registered by the GPhC).

Experience with the patient medication record software RxWeb will be an advantage for candidates.

As the successful candidate you will be supported and trained on the job by our pharmacist manager. You will report to the pharmacist manager.

The salary is negotiable, particularly for candidates with strong relevant work experience and qualifications.

Please apply only via Indeed and provide your up-to-date CV and a covering letter or message which must describe in some detail how your experience, qualifications, abilities and availability match this job.
