Head of Medicines Management

Restful Homes Group
Regional role – covering 9 care homes
Full or part time | Permanent

Are you an experienced medicines professional looking for a role where you can make a real difference?

Restful Homes Group is looking for an experienced Head of Medicines Management to lead medicines governance across our growing group of nine care homes.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior medicines professional who enjoys combining clinical expertise, governance, audit, training and continuous improvement.

You will play a key role in ensuring that medicines are managed safely, lawfully and effectively across our services, while supporting our teams to deliver personalised, resident-centred care.

What you'll be doing

As Head of Medicines Management, you will:

  • Lead and develop our group-wide medicines governance framework.
  • Carry out scheduled and unannounced medicines audits across our care homes.
  • Review the complete medicines pathway, from ordering and storage through to administration, recording and disposal.
  • Monitor controlled drugs, PRN medicines, high-risk medicines, covert administration and other areas of medicines risk.
  • Review medicines rounds, MAR/eMAR records, stock and supporting documentation.
  • Identify risks and produce clear improvement plans, ensuring actions are completed and sustained.
  • Lead on the Group's eMAR system, including data quality, user access, training and system improvements.
  • Review medicines care plans, risk assessments and PRN protocols.
  • Develop and deliver medicines training and competency assessments for staff.
  • Provide advice and support following medication errors, near misses and other medicines-related concerns.
  • Support investigations and learning reviews and ensure learning is embedded across our homes.
  • Work closely with Registered Managers, nurses, care teams, pharmacies, GPs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide senior leaders with clear assurance on medicines safety, risks, trends and improvement priorities.
  • Support new services and organisational growth.

The role requires you to be visible and approachable while also having the confidence to challenge unsafe or inconsistent practice when necessary.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in medicines management within care homes, adult social care or a closely related setting.
  • A current NMC or GPhC registered professional, or able to demonstrate substantial equivalent senior experience in medicines governance.
  • Experienced in medicines auditing, incident investigation, improvement planning and staff training.
  • Confident working with electronic medicines administration systems (eMAR).
  • Knowledgeable about medicines governance, controlled drugs, consent and capacity, incident management and adult social care regulatory expectations.
  • Comfortable analysing information, identifying risk and turning findings into practical improvements.
  • An excellent communicator who can train, coach and influence staff at all levels.
  • Confident challenging practice respectfully and professionally.
  • Organised, thorough and persistent in following actions through to completion.
  • Resident-focused, calm and professionally curious.

Experience across multiple care services, care-home mobilisation, pharmacy-provider management, or supporting people with dementia, complex needs or mental health needs would be advantageous.

What you'll need

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to travel regularly between our nine care homes.
  • Ability to respond flexibly to urgent medicines-related concerns when required.
  • Satisfactory enhanced DBS and appropriate right-to-work checks.

Why join us?

You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of medicines governance across a growing care organisation and make a tangible difference to resident safety, quality of care and staff practice.

You'll be joining an organisation where your expertise can directly influence how medicines are managed across multiple services, while helping teams develop their knowledge, confidence and competence.

Interested?

If you're an experienced medicines professional ready to take the next step in your career and lead medicines governance across a growing care group, we'd love to hear from you.
