Job Summary

Dr Laliwala & Partners is looking to welcome a HCA/GPA Assistant to join the team on a Fixed Term basis.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Supporting the practice team by carrying out the following:

o Baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately

o Routine investigations such as ECGs and venepuncture

o Wound care and dressings

o Ensuring specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

o Flu vaccinations

o Ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse

o Act as a chaperone as required

o Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

o Undertake new patient health checks and BMI monitoring

o Any other clinical tasks as required

  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes and chronic disease clinics
  • Ensure daily, weekly and monthly checks are carried out such as stocking rooms, checking fridge contents and temperatures, removing clinical waste etc. and logging this information as specified
  • Compression bandaging essential
  • Provide support during minor operations
  • Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
  • Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation

About you

As a key member of our team of Doctors, Physician Associates, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, Nurses you will have:

  • A level 3 healthcare qualification or equivalent, or be working towards this
  • Previously dealt with the public and worked in a healthcare setting
  • Ideally you will have a relevant qualification in Phlebotomy/Venepuncture
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and you will be able to understand the needs of the patient and be sensitive and empathic
  • Good interpersonal skills, committed to supporting the team and the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
  • Strong IT skills
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development
