Full job description
Sony Music Commercial Group (CG) oversees a vast collection of legendary artists and their iconic catalogue. ‘Catalogue’ refers to anything which is older than 42 months – everything from Whitney Houston to One Direction, The Clash to Miguel, George Michael to George Ezra, Elvis Presley to Calvin Harris, Mariah Carey to Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen to Jamiroquai, and everything in between! The Commercial Group produces, manages, and maintains this catalogue, representing nearly every musical genre, building legacies for our artists that stand the test of time in the same way that their music has. Commercial Group strives to bring fans even closer to their favourite artists, and to introduce audiences to other artists across Sony’s catalogue, ensuring that our artists and their culture-defining catalogues remain culturally relevant for generations to come. We reimagine the past to inspire the future.
Our catalogue marketing activity exists in conjunction with artists and Sony’s frontline labels on a non-stop basis, taking place when artists are both in and out of album cycle; identifying opportunities, moments, and trends which could bring fans closer to their favourite artists, and which could introduce them to other artists in Sony’s vast catalogue.
To say the role and the department is varied would be an understatement, and the year-long internship will allow you to see exactly how our marketing team operates, both in terms of physical releases and marketing campaigns within the realm of streaming. We are a close-knit team who love music and are passionate about creating legacies for our artists and their work. We value dedication, passion, and innovative thinking in all that we do, and strive to create an environment in which experience and knowledge is constantly being shared. Key to the role is keeping abreast of social media trends and short-form content which uses music – identifying and amplifying these moments is an important part of what we do.
Please note: This application form cannot be saved part-way through. We recommend preparing your answers in a separate document and then copying them into the form when you’re ready to submit. If you’d like to take additional time to complete your application, please ensure you gather your responses externally before submitting in one go.
If you have any reasonable adjustment requests, please reach out to recruitment.support@sonymusic.com.
Role Overview:
Ways of Working
- Office attendance: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are mandatory in-office days
- Flexibility: Wednesday and Friday are flexible
- Offsite working: You will have the opportunity to attend gigs, content shoots, assist on promo
What you'll do:
- Provide support to the Artist Marketing team across releases and campaigns – from ideation (suggesting concepts, angles, and creative ideas), research, and planning, all the way through to execution and beyond. This also includes important administrative support e.g. booking bikes/couriers and transport, booking artist/management/staff travel where necessary, booking meeting rooms, organising weekly department meetings and agendas, pulling data using internal tools, answering general enquiries
- Run your own campaigns for artists/anniversaries/moments identified by the wider marketing team. This includes coming up with ideas and activations, seeking artist/management approval and overseeing campaign execution, overseen by your own manager
- Where/when necessary, be present at video and photo shoots, showcase events, artist appearances
- Act as an ‘ambassador’ for the department. Work closely with marketing teams and other areas of the business to find out about new releases, new signings, remixes
Who you are:
- Have a genuine love of music – nothing is too niche or obscure for us! A broad appreciation of music is key, but a decent knowledge of pre-2000 repertoire would definitely be beneficial
- A proven self-starter, with drive to learn how the music industry operates, and passion to learn and develop
- An individual plugged into the world of social media (especially TikTok) and current trends
- A highly organised individual who can multi-task while remaining calm under pressure, and who can prioritise workload, goals, targets and time, and to work independently
- A team player who can be relied upon to participate as needed during busy periods, who can confidently deal with people at all levels, both internally and externally
What we give you:
- An annual salary of £28,480 (London Living Wage)
- You join a vibrant global community with the opportunity to channel your passion every day
- A modern office environment designed for you, empowering you to bring your best
- Investment in your professional growth and development such as focused workshops and a dedicated mentor, enabling you to thrive in our vibrant community
- The space to accelerate progress, positively disrupt and create what happens next
- We give you the platform to champion positive change, with the opportunity to contribute to our social impact, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives
- We provide an excellent range of benefits like private medical cover, a generous pension scheme, life assurance, income protection, plus loads of music industry perks. There’s also time off over winter break
- Applications open August 10th at 10:00 and close August 24th at 10:00. Candidates whose applications are selected will be invited to complete a video interview between September 28th and October 3rd.
- Candidates who pass this stage will then be invited to the final stage of the process, an in-person assessment centre in early November. We will send further information on this stage before the date arrives.
- Successful applicants will start in January 2027.
