Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT)

To deliver our new strategic plan – Our Wild Sussex – we need people with bold and innovative ideas to help us to achieve our ambitions for local wildlife and wild places.

We are committed to restoring and protecting at least 30% of Sussex land and sea for nature, inspiring one in four people to take meaningful action for wildlife, building a stronger more inclusive and diverse organisation and becoming a net zero and climate resilient organisation.

We are looking for the best and most talented people to join our team and help us deliver this exciting and ambitious strategy. We are keen to hear from you even if you don't have all the skills and experience outlined in the Job Description but have the potential to grow into a role.

So, if you are someone who is determined to see a Sussex rich in wildlife and you have drive, energy and commitment to our values of Innovation, Passion, Collaboration and Inclusion why not apply now to join our great team, working together to deliver Our Wild Sussex.

We particularly welcome applications from people currently underrepresented in the conservation sector, including disabled people, people from Black, Asian and other ethnically diverse backgrounds, people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, non-graduates, and people from geographically diverse communities. We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.

The Role

This is an entry level opportunity to support SWT to engage with a diverse range of audiences across a variety of media. It will have a focus on inspiring an interest in nature through the creation of engaging communications which encourage and support communities to take effective action for wildlife in Sussex. The role is part of our Wild About Inclusion project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to fund our ambitions to become a more inclusive and diverse organisation.

The Person

We're looking for someone at the start of their communications career with a genuine passion for nature and a confident grasp of social media, especially TikTok. You'll know what makes short-form video stop the scroll, but you'll be just as happy turning your hand to a newsletter, responding to online comments or proofreading a press release. You don't need years of experience, what matters more is curiosity, attention to detail, and a real commitment to wildlife and conservation. You'll work across a varied mix of tasks each day, from helping select images for our photo library to drafting social content and responding to public enquiries, so we're after someone organised, diplomatic, and happy to be learning on the job. Experience managing a TikTok, Instagram or other shortform video channel (even informally) is a bonus, as is any writing for publications, designing, photography or image editing. Happy to speak on camera, or keen to gain experience doing so. Above all, we want someone who cares about Sussex's wildlife and wants to help others care too.
