The Wool Company is an established, independent Cornish business specialising in premium natural fibre products, including luxurious wool and cashmere clothing, blankets, throws, sheepskins and beautiful products for the home.

We are looking for a talented, highly capable Commercial Photographer & Videographer to take ownership of our photography and video production, helping us showcase our products to the very highest standard.

We take great care over lighting, composition, styling, texture and accurate colour reproduction.

The role

You will take responsibility for planning, organising, photographing, filming, editing and delivering professional-quality visual content for our ecommerce website, advertising and marketing activities.

Our photography includes studio product shoots, clothing on models, lifestyle photography in beautiful interior and outdoor locations, sheepskins, blankets, throws and occasional baby and children's shoots.

You will work closely with the founders initially to understand our photographic standards and brand style, before increasingly taking ownership of the complete creative production process.

We do not have a large in-house marketing or production team, so you must be comfortable working independently, managing projects and delivering finished work without needing extensive support.

Key responsibilities

Photography

• Plan and deliver exceptional studio and lifestyle product photography.
• Photograph shawls and accessories on models, both in the studio and on location.
• Create beautiful interior and lifestyle imagery featuring blankets, throws, sheepskins and other natural fibre products.
• Work confidently with professional camera equipment, studio lighting and natural light.
• Maintain excellent colour accuracy using grey cards, consistent white balance and colour-managed editing workflows.
• Capture the texture, drape, softness and fine detail of natural fibre products.
• Edit and retouch photographs professionally using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
• Prepare, optimise and upload finished images for our ecommerce website.
• Maintain an organised and accessible image library.

Videography

• Plan, film and edit high-quality video content for our website, social media and digital advertising.
• Produce short-form product videos, lifestyle sequences, model-based content and behind-the-scenes footage.
• Capture the movement, texture and quality of our products in a natural and appealing way.
• Edit footage professionally, including appropriate pacing, sound, colour correction and platform formatting.
• Develop creative ideas for video content that help customers understand and appreciate our products.

Creative planning and production

• Take ownership of shoot preparation, shot lists, styling and scheduling.
• Coordinate models, locations, props and product preparation as required.
• Work closely with our stock controller to ensure new products are photographed promptly and efficiently.
• Develop creative visual concepts for new collections, product launches and seasonal campaigns.
• Create finished photography and video assets for use by external marketing specialists.
• Manage your workload, deadlines and priorities independently.
• Explore how AI and emerging creative technologies can improve planning, editing and production efficiency while maintaining accurate, authentic product representation.

About you

Essential skills and experience

• An excellent photographic portfolio demonstrating strong commercial product, fashion, lifestyle or interior photography.
• Proven experience with professional cameras and studio lighting.
• Excellent understanding of composition, exposure, colour management and accurate product photography.
• Advanced skills in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
• Strong practical videography and video editing skills.
• Proficiency with professional video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro.
• Confidence directing models and helping people feel comfortable in front of the camera.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to outstanding image quality.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan and execute shoots independently.
• Good computer skills and confidence managing digital files and content.
• A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to become involved in the practical day-to-day running of a small business.
• An interest in learning and using AI-assisted creative tools.

Desirable, but not essential

• Experience photographing premium textiles, cashmere, wool, fashion or home interiors.
• Experience organising lifestyle shoots and selecting suitable locations.
• Experience with ecommerce product photography and image preparation.
• Familiarity with content requirements for Instagram, Pinterest and paid social advertising.
• Experience with website content management systems.
• Interest in natural fibres, craftsmanship, sustainability and premium consumer products.

Our studio and equipment

We have an in-house photographic studio, including a Canon EOS R6 Mark II camera and photographic equipment.

Experience with Canon EOS R-series cameras would be welcome, but is not essential. We are far more interested in your technical understanding, creative ability and the quality of your finished work.

You will be confident working with professional cameras, lighting and editing software.

Working arrangements

Our premises are in rural Cornwall, in a converted barn with studio and office facilities. We offer a friendly, practical working environment rather than a corporate office setting.

As photography is central to this role, regular attendance at our studio is essential. Some editing, planning and other suitable work may be undertaken remotely by agreement.

There is no public transport access to our premises, so reliable independent transport is essential.
