Freelance School Photographer

Location: Midlands Region

Start Date: September 2026

About Aperture Portraits

Aperture Portraits is one of the Midlands' leading school, nursery and portrait photography companies. We work with hundreds of schools and nurseries across the region, creating high-quality portraits and group photographs that capture important moments in children's educational journeys.

As our business continues to grow, we are looking for enthusiastic, reliable and professional Freelance Photographers to join our team for the upcoming academic year.

The Role

As a Freelance School Photographer, you will visit schools and nurseries throughout the Midlands, photographing children in a fun, engaging and professional manner. You will play a key role in creating lasting memories for families while delivering an outstanding experience for our schools and nursery partners.

No school photography experience is necessary as full training will be provided. However, applicants should be confident working with children, enjoy meeting new people and have a positive, professional attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Photograph individual and group portraits in schools and nurseries.
  • Create a positive and enjoyable experience for children and school staff.
  • Set up and operate professional photography equipment.
  • Follow Aperture Portraits' photography and workflow procedures.
  • Travel to assigned locations throughout the Midlands.
  • Upload and manage photographic data accurately and securely.
  • Represent the company professionally at all times.

What We're Looking For

  • A passion for photography and working with people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Friendly, confident and professional manner.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow established procedures.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable Skills

  • Previous photography experience.
  • Experience working with children or within educational settings.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom or other image editing software.
