Event Experience Specialist – £90–£180 Per Event
Flexible freelance work | London & surrounding areas | Own car essential
*** Please do not apply if you do not drive and have access to a car***
Earn £90–£180 per event working at London's best parties, weddings and corporate events.
We're looking for confident, reliable and switched-on people to join our freelance team delivering premium event experiences for Smile Events.
This is ideal for students, photographers, videographers, creatives, freelancers or anyone looking for interesting and flexible evening and weekend work alongside other commitments.
If you're good with people, comfortable with technology, have your own car and like the idea of working at some of London's best events, we'd love to hear from you.
About Smile Events
Smile Events is a premium event experiences company. We go well beyond the standard photo booth, creating memorable and interactive experiences for major corporations, luxury private events, weddings and parties.
Our services include high-end photo and video experiences, AI-driven experiences, bespoke event technology and custom event installations.
Our team are the people who bring those experiences to life on the night.
This isn't a job where you simply stand next to a photo booth.
You'll be trusted to transport equipment, set up and operate our technology, interact with guests and represent Smile Events professionally at the event.
Once trained, you'll often be working independently, so we need people who can think for themselves, take responsibility and get things done properly.
What you'll be doing
As an Event Experience Specialist, you'll:
- Collect equipment from our office in Egham, Surrey
- Drive to event venues across London and the surrounding areas
- Safely load, transport and unload event equipment (fits in a small car)
- Set up and dismantle our photo booths and other event technology
- Operate the equipment throughout the event
- Welcome guests and encourage them to get involved
- Help guests get the best possible experience from our installations
- Deal confidently and professionally with guests at weddings, parties and corporate events
- Keep the experience running smoothly throughout the event
- Troubleshoot straightforward technical issues, with remote support from our technical team
- Pack everything away carefully at the end of the event
- Represent Smile Events and our clients professionally at all times
Who we're looking for
We're not particularly interested in whether you've operated a photo booth before.
We'll teach you the equipment.
What we can't teach as easily is being the sort of person we can trust to turn up at an important event and get the job done properly.
You should be:
Reliable
If you're booked for an event, you turn up. On time. Every time.
Great with people
You'll be dealing directly with wedding guests, corporate clients and members of the public. You need to be naturally friendly, confident and comfortable talking to people you don't know.
Switched-on
You'll be using technology and dealing with situations where things don't always go exactly to plan. You need to be able to learn quickly, follow instructions and think on your feet.
There is loading, unloading, carrying and setting up involved. You need to be comfortable getting stuck in rather than standing around waiting to be told what to do.
Professional
You're representing Smile Events at some of London's best events, often in front of our clients and their guests.
You need to be presentable and professional at all times.
You must have your own car - this is non-negotiable.
You must have:
- A full UK driving licence
- Regular access to your own reliable vehicle (small car minimum)
- The ability to travel reliably to our office in Egham, Surrey and to venues across London and the surrounding areas
Please do not apply if you don't have a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
Flexible Availability
The work is freelance and flexible, and you choose which events you want to take on.
The majority of our events take place in the evenings and at weekends.
Events can finish late, so you must be genuinely comfortable working evening and night shifts.
Pay
Event Experience Specialists typically earn £90–£180 per event, depending on the event, duration and responsibilities. Pay is £14 per hour for the whole event including travel and set up time.
Additional agreed travel and expenses are paid where applicable eg parking
Training and progression
You don't need previous photo booth experience.
We provide hands-on training covering:
- Setup and breakdown procedures
- Operating the equipment
- Guest interaction
- Troubleshooting
- Event procedures
- Our standards and expectations
Our recruitment process is deliberately thorough.
After an initial application and video interview, successful candidates will go through a trial event followed by hands-on training and further shadowing at events.
This allows us to make sure you're right for us and, equally importantly, gives you the opportunity to see what the job is actually like before taking on events independently.
The trial event process forms part of our final selection process and is unpaid.
Once you've demonstrated that you can do the job to our standards, you'll begin working independently at events.
Opportunities for photographers and videographers
A number of our team members come from photography and videography backgrounds.
If you already have photography or videography experience, we'd particularly like to hear from you. We also have regular opportunities for freelance photographers and videographers to work independently with our clients.
However, everyone joins us as an Event Experience Specialist first.
Photography and videography assignments are offered to team members who have demonstrated that they are reliable, professional and capable of representing Smile Events successfully at events.
For the right person, this can therefore lead to additional and more specialised work with us.
Who this role could suit
This role can work particularly well for:
- Students looking for well-paid evening and weekend work
- Photographers and videographers looking for additional freelance work
- Actors, performers and creatives
- Freelancers with flexible availability
- People with existing event or hospitality experience or an interest in the industry
- Anyone looking for interesting work alongside another job or commitment
What matters most isn't your previous job title.
It's whether you're reliable, personable, intelligent, practical and capable of representing Smile Events properly.
