Full job description

Build real production experience. Create work for your portfolio. Develop the skills and confidence to take your next step into Film & TV.

BritAsia Academy is the training and development arm connected to BritAsia TV, supporting emerging creative talent with practical, industry-focused experience and opportunities to develop professional skills within a real media environment.

We are looking for enthusiastic people who want to gain hands-on Film & TV production experience through a structured 12-week, part-time bootcamp placement based at the BritAsia TV offices and approved filming locations.

This is an opportunity for people who may not yet have professional Film & TV experience but are serious about getting started.

You’ll work alongside other emerging creatives, take part in practical production projects and receive structured guidance as you develop experience across the complete production process - from the first idea through to the finished screen project.

What you’ll gain

This placement has been designed to give you much more than something to add to your CV.

You’ll receive:

  • £5 travel contribution for each day you attend
  • A guaranteed job interview on successful completion of the programme
  • A strong portfolio of Film & TV production work
  • Hands-on experience working on practical screen projects
  • Experience using professional production equipment and workflows
  • Regular guidance, feedback and support throughout
  • 1-to-1 support during production and editing activities
  • Experience working as part of a production crew
  • Greater confidence applying for entry-level Film & TV and content-production opportunities
  • Exposure to different industry roles and career pathways
  • A final opportunity to present and showcase your completed work

Please note: the guaranteed interview is an opportunity to interview for relevant employment opportunities and does not constitute a guarantee of employment.

What you’ll be involved in

Over the 12 weeks, you’ll develop practical experience across the complete Film & TV production process, including:

Creative Development & Pre-Production

  • Developing original Film & TV ideas
  • Understanding audiences, genres and storytelling
  • Scriptwriting
  • Storyboarding and visual planning
  • Shot lists and production planning
  • Preparing projects and allocating crew roles

Production

  • Camera operation and framing
  • Visual storytelling and camera movement
  • Recording usable sound
  • Lighting fundamentals
  • Working effectively as part of a crew
  • Controlled filming exercises
  • Location filming
  • Production etiquette and professional working practices
  • Health & safety on set

Post-Production

  • Organising footage and production files
  • Editing and narrative assembly
  • Basic sound design
  • Colour correction
  • Finishing and exporting completed work

Career & Professional Development

  • Understanding Film & TV roles and progression routes
  • Professional communication and teamwork
  • Developing reliability and production discipline
  • Presenting your work confidently
  • Portfolio development
  • Receiving and responding to professional feedback
  • Understanding networking, pitching and career progression

By the end of the placement, you should have tangible evidence of your development rather than simply having observed from the sidelines.

You’ll contribute to a practical group film project, build your own individual production portfolio, and develop material that can help demonstrate your abilities when approaching future employers, freelance clients or further opportunities.

Who we’re looking for

You do not need previous professional Film & TV experience.

This opportunity could be ideal if you are:

  • Looking to break into Film & TV
  • Interested in becoming a camera operator, production assistant, runner, editor or production creative
  • A content creator wanting to develop more professional production skills
  • Considering a career change into the creative industries
  • Looking to build a credible portfolio before applying for industry roles
  • Creative, curious and interested in storytelling
  • Comfortable learning practically and working as part of a team
  • Reliable and willing to commit to the programme

No formal Film & TV qualifications are required.

Basic digital confidence, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are much more important.

Pay: £1.00-£5.00 per day

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Free or subsidised travel
  • Paid volunteer time
  • Referral programme
