Overview
We are looking for a passionate, creative and inspiring Film & TV Teacher to join our PQA Academy team and help young people develop their skills, confidence and creativity through film and television.
Our students range from 7 to 18 years old, so the successful candidate will be confident working across a wide range of ages and abilities, creating an inclusive and encouraging environment where every student can thrive.
The Role
As our Film & TV Teacher, you will lead engaging and practical sessions covering a range of filmmaking and television production skills. You will encourage students to develop their creativity while giving them the technical and performance skills needed to bring their ideas to life.
You will be responsible for planning and delivering fun, structured sessions that may include:
- Film and TV production
- Camera and cinematography
- Directing
- Scriptwriting and story development
- Acting for camera
- Film editing and post-production
- Sound and lighting
- Shot composition and visual storytelling
- Creating short films and television-style productions
- Developing ideas from concept through to finished production
- Working collaboratively with students on productions
- Preparing students for showcases, screenings and other performances/projects
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about film and television and enthusiastic about sharing that passion with young people.
- Creative and imaginative, with the ability to develop exciting projects suitable for different ages.
- Confident working with children and young people aged 7–18.
- Able to adapt teaching styles to suit different ages, abilities, confidence levels and learning needs.
- Experienced in practical filmmaking and/or television production.
- Comfortable teaching both creative and technical aspects of production.
- A confident communicator who can inspire and motivate students.
- Organised, reliable and able to plan engaging sessions.
- Patient, encouraging and committed to creating a positive learning environment.
- Comfortable managing groups of young people and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Able to work collaboratively with other PQA teachers and Academy staff.
Essential Experience
- Experience working in film, television, media production or a related creative field.
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational, performing arts or youth setting.
- Good knowledge of filmmaking and production processes.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A genuine enthusiasm for helping young people develop their creativity and confidence.
Desirable
- Teaching, workshop-leading or youth-work experience.
- Experience with editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve or similar.
- Experience directing or producing short films.
- Knowledge of current film and television production techniques.
- Experience working towards showcases, festivals or student productions.
- Relevant teaching, media, film or performing arts qualifications.
