Freelance Early Years Photographer – Join the Concept Photography Team!

Location: Must be local due to travel requirements

Pay: £120-£120/day (based on shoot size)Availability: Ideally 3-4 days per week (Monday to Friday, no weekends)Requirements: Must have a car or van and a full UK driving licence

Concept Photography is the UK’s leading early years photography company, capturing precious moments in nurseries, pre-schools, and playgroups. We’re looking for talented photographers with big personalities to join our team!

The Role: 50% Photography, 50% Personality!

Being a nursery photographer isn’t just about technical skill – it’s about energy, patience, and making kids feel at ease. You’ll need to be fun, adaptable, and unflappable, with a natural ability to connect with children, staff, and parents.

Some experience working with families or children as a photographer is required. However, we provide full training and ongoing support to help you refine your skills and adapt to this unique field.

What You’ll Do:

  • Travel to nurseries with a full studio setup (provided)
  • Capture beautiful portraits of babies and children
  • Set up and manage a mobile studio (indoors and outdoors)
  • Handle post-processing (culling images, backing up files)
  • Deliver top-quality images to our head office

What You Need:

  • Photography Skills: Studio lighting and composition experience
  • Gear: Decent DSLR/Mirrorless camera and a short-range zoom lens (e.g., 24-70mm)
  • Editing: Proficiency in Lightroom/Photoshop (Adobe package required)
  • Travel: Full UK driving licence and reliable car/van (essential)
  • DBS Check: Enhanced DBS is desired but can be arranged through us
  • Personality: Confidence, enthusiasm, and the ability to engage young children and staff

As a self-employed freelancer, you would be eligible to claim mileage expenses—be sure to check the latest HMRC guidelines.

Work Schedule & Seasonal Peaks

Due to the nature of our business, we have busy and quiet seasons throughout the year. Peak seasons run from April to mid-July and mid-September to late November.

Early starts may be required. Most nursery shoots require arrival between 8 AM and 9 AM.

  • A small shoot may require an 8:30 AM arrival, ready for a 9 AM start, finishing around 11:30 AM.
  • Larger shoots may require an 8 AM arrival, ready for 8:30 AM, finishing around 2–3 PM.

The great thing is that your schedule is released months in advance, allowing you to plan around other commitments.

Mileage and travel: Concept Photography do not pay mileage, due to freelance photographers being able to claim back through their self assessment annually. However we do have a tiered system for further away shoots.

What We Provide:

  • Full studio kit (lights, backdrops, stands, props)
  • Comprehensive training and ongoing support
  • Pre-organized schedules to fit around other freelance work

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a friendly, supportive team
  • Work in a fun, creative environment
  • Opportunity to grow your skills in a unique niche

Start Date: September 2026
